really an outcome of a continual serching look for customers, but which his simple clients took to be a prophetic light and felt comforted. The power of his eyes was considerably enhanced by their position --- placed as they were between the painted forehead and the dark whiskers which streamed down his cheeks; even a half-wit's eyes would sparkle in such a setting. To crown the effect he wound a saffron coloured turban around his head. This colour scheme never failed. People were attracted to him
as bees are attracted to cosmos or dahlia stalks. He sat under the boughs of a spreading tamarind tree which flanked a path running through the Town Hall Park. It was a remarkable place in many ways; a surging crowd was always moving up and down this narrow road morning

Source text - Spanish El proyecto de ecoturismo Cañadas del Pixquiac es una iniciativa que involucra tres comunidades del ejido San Pedro Buenavista en el municipio de acajete, Veracruz: Vega del Pixquiac, Palo Blanco y El Zapotal. Estas comunidades se localizan dentro de la Cuenca del río Pixquiac ubicada en la cara suroriental del volcán Cofre de Perote. Esta cuenca es de particular importancia por tres razones: está habitada por algunos centenares de familias campesinas a lo largo de la cuenca, alberga varios ecosistemas forestales de montaña, en particular bosques de pino-encino y bosques de niebla, mesófilo o de hoja ancha; y finalmente hay que destacar que la cuenca abastece de cerca del 40% del agua que se consume en el área conurbada de Xalapa.
El ecoturismo busca ser una alternativa productiva a la tala del bosque, que ha sido la única opción que hemos tenido los campesinos de esta región para mantenernos. La asamblea general del ejido San Pedro Buenavista ha acordado que las áreas de uso común con bosque de niebla sean reservas ejidales. Contando con que se podrán obtener ingresos sin talar el bosque, dichos ingresos provendrán del ecoturismo y la compensación por servicios ambientales. Los 28 campesinos que hemos decidido dedicarnos a esta actividad estamos en proceso de formación permanente para ofrecer el mejor servicio al compartir con ustedes esta riqueza y patrimonio natural que custodiamos.
Translation - English Cañadas del Pixquiac is an ecotouristic project comprising Vega del Pixquiac, Palo Blanco and El Zapotal: three communities in the San Pedro Buenavista ejido, in the municipality of Acajete, Veracruz. These communities are located within the Pixquiac river basin, on Cofre de Perote’s Southeast face. The importance of this river basin lies on three points: there are several hundreds of peasant families living here; it has several mountain forest ecosystems, especially pine and evergreen oak forests and cloud forests, both mesophyl and broadleaved; and finally, around 40% of Xalapa and its surroundings’ water supply comes from this area.
The ecotouristic alternative aims to replace forest logging, the only livelihood known to the peasants of the area up until now. The ejido San Pedro Buenavista’s General Assembly has agreed to turn all cloud forest-covered common areas into ejidal reserves and to use them for ecotourism, thus obtaining an income from touristic and environmental services rather than from the felling of trees. We, the 28 peasants devoted to this project, are in constant training in order to provide you with the best service and to share with you the richness and natural heritage of this area that we look after and cherish so much.

Translation
is a mixture of creativity and practice, it requires experience, intuition and a good sense of language. I started translating, proofreading and transcreating both from Swedish and English in 2001, motivated by my experiences of living abroad and encountering new cultures. While continuing with the practice of translating (and discovering new languages, ways of thinking and people) I studied a BA in Linguistics and Phonetics at Stockholms Universitet and, more recently, a Post-graduate program in Translation and Translation studies at El Colegio de México. The academic approach has helped me attain a more complete perspective and has made me aware of the fact that translation is not only about languages, but it also involves an ideology and a practical purpose, reason for which each text must be treated as a unique entity with particular features.
