French to English: Conjectural regulation of the water reservoir of the Goro-Nickel Project (New-Caledonia)
Translation - English Within the context of the study of the GORO-NICKEL project, a water reservoir is to be constructed at the confluence of rivers upstream from the Kwé bay. This reservoir has the aim of serving the different water requirements of the project's mining activities (cleaning water, conditioning water, water for the industrial process, etc.), which are 1800m3/hour. This reservoir seriously risks disturbing the environment of the Kwé bay, and in particular harming the flora and fauna of the river (notably the fish and their habitats). The river would see an attribution of "environmental flow rate" equal to 250m3/hour (that is about 4% of the original natural flow). This very small number is estimated in relation to a dry centenial hydrological year. Simulation of different scenarios of dry and humid hydrological years (conjectural simulation) is recommended to optimise the "environmental flow rate" by releases of the reservoir, in accordance with different simulated hydrological situations.
French to English: Determination of the Environmental Flow Rate
Translation - English The environmental flow rate would be the sum of releases of the reservoir, plus the supplies from the basin side of the Kwé: 7. 3 km2 (these supplies must be considered in correlation with the supplies belonging to the reservoir).
The flow rate could be optimised for the "critical months" as an intermediary value between the average flow rate and the median flow rate (i.e.., the flow rate that is satisfied one year out of two). It will be able to be fixed in relation to the minimum threshold for each month according to the needs of the fish and their habits, or in a probabilistic manner, that is to say, the flow rate equal to or in excess of a certain number of days per month (the choice of the number of days depends on the level of safeguard that is being is sought).

Years of experience: 25. Registered at ProZ.com: Dec 2009.
I am a professionally accredited translator working from French into my native English, based in Sydney, Australia, with years of experience in a variety of subject areas, including:
- theoretical (scholarly articles)
- legal (contracts)
- commercial
- artistic (film texts)
I have tertiary qualifications B.A. (Hons), D.E.A. (Diplôme d'études approfondies) in Philosophy from the Université Marc Bloch in Strasbourg, and a Doctorate in German from New York University. I have also lived and studied in France for lengthy periods, with regular visits in between.
My research and technical skills are excellent: I am proficient in handling various kinds of files and have a good grasp of the general principles of editing and layout.
Sydney is around 8 hours ahead of many parts of Europe, and even further ahead of locations in the US. This can be an advantage for work that needs to be ready "overnight" or shortly after a weekend.
I'm happy to negotiate rates taking volume and technical difficulty into account and provide samples of work in particular areas.
