I have been working in the localisation industry for the past 24 years, both as a freelance translator and within two of the largest localisation companies in the world, LionBridge Technologies and SDL (now RWS), before becoming a freelance translator in order to be able to give my clients all the time and attention they need.
I handle a lot of technical projects (medical, heavy machinery, debitmeters, pumps, civil engineering, machine tools, building industry etc.), but I also handle nature and environment related translations, marketing translations and other more general translations (for example I translated the 3000 cocktails bible and its update (difford's guide))
For the pas two years, I have been handling about a million words of meeting minutes of Corporate Boards, mostly from Flemish into Belgian French.
I also translated for a while the highly interesting ABB Review quarterly magazines (ABB Review)
But the most interesting thing I have done in a while is the translation of the educational program of the European Space Agency. 100000 words to present to teenagers and teachers all the activities of ESA (ESA presentation video)
I have a deep knowledge of what translation entails, of the fact that a translated text should feel like it was originally written in that language and never translated. Precision and Detail orientation are one of my fortes and I am a fast learner.
For me, a translation should be useful, it should help make a difference for a company or a non governmental organisation, helping them reach their goal.
A language is not only a way of communicating, but reflects a way of thinking. The job of the translator, uneasy as it seems, is to convey into a language, the way of thinking of another one.
My clients appreciate me mostly for my speed and punctuality as well as for the quality and consistency of my translations.
