I started translating contracts and specifications at the tender age of 17, for a former director of the Royal Mint in London who had set up his own company. Despite my inexperience and (at the time) undoubtedly dubious German, his business flourished and his wife even included me recently in her will - over 40 years later!

My working career took me first to Brussels, then to the Belgian provinces and finally to Germany,where I have lived for the past 36 years. In Belgium I translated texts in the fields of spectrometry, nuclear fuel reprocessing (6 years), administration and tourism.

After my marriage, my time was devoted primarily to house, home and children, before eventually becoming involved in translating the German entries for an International Military Encyclopedia (2 years). From then on I began doing free-lance translations in a wide variety of subjects for various agencies in Brussels and Germany.

For 9 years my principal client was an EU umbrella organization, for which I researched, translated and edited articles (German/English, French/English, Spanish/English, Italian/English) for the monthly newsletter.

When my daughter embarked on a translation career, she spurred me on to join Proz.com and build up a larger portfolio of clients (including you?!).
