Translation - English The most recent development in the country is undoubtedly the ongoing diplomatic standoff between Ecuador and Colombia, in the wake of the incident of 1 March 2008, in which the Colombian armed forces entered Ecuadorian territory without permission, violating the country’s sovereignty, to bomb a FARC camp, in an attack which killed the guerrilla group’s second-in-command. The repercussions reached international proportions and led to the withdrawal of the respective consuls of both countries, with verbal aggression in the national and international written press.
