The progress in the magnetic resonance image (MRI) acquisition as a clinic instrument have been extraordinary, overcoming the quick development of any other image acquition technique. This fast growth is an irrefutable testimony of its clinical meaning. Specialists in this area and their clinic colegues didn’t waist time in noticing the advantages of an investigation that produces a clear anatomical visualization at any plane, without radiation risks to the patients, presenting in addition a discrimination between the imaging techniques. Far from stabilisation, this process have been accelerated, and new applications are being contantly defined.
Chapter 1 Basic Principles.
Introduction
The basic principles of imaging acquirement techniques by magnetic resonance (MIR) constitute the deepest comprehension basis related to the subject. On the other hand, it is extremely important that this ideas are fully understood before moving to more complicated concepts. There are basicaly two ways to explain the fundaments of MRI: Classicaly and by Quantic physics. Any discussion require both versions and because of that we have tried to integrate both. In this chapter, the properties of the atoms and its interactions with the magnetic fields, exitation and relaxation are discussed.

Os princípios básicos das técnicas de aquisição de imagens por ressonância magnética (IRM) constituem a mais profunda compreensão primária relacionada ao assunto. Por outro lado, é extremamente importante que as ideias sejam completamente entendidas antes de prosseguir em direção a conceitos mais complicados. Existem basicamente duas formas de explicar os fundamentos da IRM: De forma clássica e por meio da física quântica. Qualquer discussão requer ambas as versões e por essa razão nós tentamos integrar as duas. Neste capítulo, as propriedades dos átomos e suas interações com os campos magnéticos, excitação e relaxação serão discutidos.
