Chinese to English: 白內障手術與閉角性青光眼的治療 General field: Science Detailed field: Medical (general)
Source text - Chinese
Translation - English Cataract Surgery and the Treatment of Closed Angle Glaucoma
There are two categories of glaucoma: open angle and close angle. For Asians, close angle glaucoma occurs more frequently. Between the iris and cornea, there is a canal for aqueous humor. Intraocular aqueous humor leaves the eye through this canal. Due to genetic and race factors, the angle of the anterior chamber for Asians is especially narrow. Aqueous humor cannot leave and stay in the eye, resulting in increased intraocular eye pressure and eventually leading to optic nerve failure due to compression. This is so-called closed angle glaucoma.
English to Chinese: Cell Based Assays General field: Science Detailed field: Biology (-tech,-chem,micro-)
Source text - English Monumental advances in genomics and proteomics have failed to yield the predicted bonanza of innovative therapeutics, causing a reassessment of cell-based assays as a more effective screening tool. Today this approach is dominated by the use of primary cells and stem cells, which constitute a much more authentic model of normalcellular systems than do the older, permanently transformed cells lines that formed the classical basis of cellular assay technology. The understanding of the molecular biology and physiology of these cell types enables rapid screening of potential drug candidates. It is likely that cell based assays may overcome the impasse that has developed in high throughput screening and its inability to reveal successful drug candidates. While the final certification of approval will always come from human trials, cell-based assays combined with robotic technologies offer immense savings through early elimination of untenable therapeutic agents.
I obtained my Ph. D degree in chemistry from the University of Washington. Before coming to the US, I have about ten year working experience in analytical / environmental chemistry and was privately mentored in translation for sixteen years by a senior level translator in Xinhua News Agency. I am a board certified clinical chemist (American Board of Clinical Chemistry). I have seventeen years of research experience in analytical / clinical chemistry in the US. I am interested in performing technical translation in chemistry, biotechnology and medicine from Chinese to English or English to Chinese.
