Source text - Portuguese Este artigo analisa o combate ao desperdício de alimentos no setor agrícola da América Latina no contexto pós-pandemia de COVID-19, abordando as características, as abordagens e as perspectivas dessa questão crítica. Inicialmente, são discutidos os conceitos gerais de perdas e desperdício ao longo da cadeia produtiva agrícola, seguidos pelas implicações globais desse fenômeno, com ênfase nos impactos ambientais, econômicos e sociais. A quantificação do desperdício serve de base para a formulação de estratégias eficazes, que incluem medidas de logística reversa, parcerias estratégicas e inovação social na redistribuição de alimentos. Além disso, o artigo apresenta informações sobre iniciativas globais e regionais de combate ao desperdício, com foco especial na América Latina e no Brasil. Finalmente, são apresentadas as tendências futuras e a importância da cooperação técnica internacional para a governança eficiente no combate ao desperdício de alimentos.
Translation - English This article examines the fight against food waste in Latin America's agricultural sector in the post-COVID-19 era, focusing on the characteristics, approaches, and future perspectives of this critical issue. It begins by discussing the general concepts of losses and waste throughout the agricultural production chain, followed by the global implications of this phenomenon, emphasising environmental, economic, and social impacts. The article explores quantifying food waste as a foundation for effective strategies, including reverse logistics, strategic partnerships, and social innovation in food redistribution. The article also covers global and regional initiatives to combat waste, with a special focus on Latin America and Brazil. Finally, it presents future trends and the importance of international technical cooperation for effective governance in the fight against food waste.
