Questa antologia presenta l’edizione integrale del primo volume delle celebri “Lezioni” di Julio Salvador Sagreras - opera didattica costituita da sei tomi - oltre a una selezione ragionata di brani utili e rappresentativi estratti dai volumi successivi.
Le lezioni, disposte in ordine progressivo di difficoltà con dettagliate finalità descritte dal compositore stesso, traggono ispirazione dall’opera didattica di Dionisio Aguado e Francisco Tárrega e accompagnano gradualmente la formazione dell’allievo manifestando chiaramente la raffinata arte pedagogica del suo autore.
Presentato nel 1922 dagli editori Romero y Fernández di Buenos Aires con il titolo Las primeras lecciones de guitarra, il primo volume è stato riproposto agli inizi degli anni Trenta - in una nuova edizione corretta e ampliata dall’autore - dalla casa editrice Ricordi Americana che, in seguito, ha stampato anche le successive cinque raccolte.
Per la pubblicazione del nostro volume sono state consultate le edizioni originali, e tutti i commenti dell’autore, che accompagnano in lingua spagnola le sue lezioni, sono stati tradotti e riportati per esteso.
Nella revisione, effettuata nel rigoroso rispetto delle fonti, sono stati corretti gli errori evidenti e aggiunte alcune pause di valore mancanti, mentre le indicazioni e i segni musicali non presenti nell’originale sono stati collocati fra parentesi quadra.
Per meglio evidenziare la condotta polifonica delle parti si sono rese necessarie, in rari casi, alcune lievi modifiche nella scrittura che non pregiudicano le intenzioni del compositore.
Le legature originali sono state mantenute e i numerosi portamenti e i segni di abbellimento sono stati riportati integralmente con scrittura chiara e uniforme.
Gli armonici sono stati scritti con la moderna grafia romboidale che segnala i suoni risultanti.
La diteggiatura della mano sinistra e della mano destra presente negli originali è stata rispettata e sono stati riportati tutti i segni relativi al tocco appoggiato.
La distinzione fra capotasto completo (barré) e mezzo capotasto, non sempre indicata con precisione nelle fonti originali, è stata evidenziata con maggiore chiarezza.
Nelle lezioni è stata eliminata la diteggiatura ripetuta con ridondanza o ritenuta superflua, mentre in alcuni casi ci è parso opportuno completarla. Solo raramente è stata leggermente modificata per adattarla alla tecnica strumentale odierna.

This book presents the unabridged edition of the first volume of Julio Salvador Sagrera's famous “Lessons” (an educational text made up of six volumes), as well as a carefully chosen collection of useful and representative musical selections extracted from the later volumes.
The lessons, arranged in order of increasing difficulty and with specific objectives described by the composer himself, are inspired by the didactic work of Dionisio Aguado and Francisco Tárrega and gradually accompany the student in his or her studies, clearly demonstrating the author's refined teaching technique.
Printed for the first time in 1922 by the Romero y Fernández publishing house in Buenos Aires under the title Las primeras lecciones de guitarra, a new edition of the first volume – corrected and expanded by the author – was then reprinted at the beginning of the 1930s by the Ricordi Americana publishing house which, thereafter, also published the following five volumes.
In compiling our edition of this volume not only were the original texts consulted, but all of the author's comments accompanying the lessons in Spanish have been translated and reprinted in full.
In this revision, carried out with the utmost respect for the original, obvious errors have been corrected and certain absent musical pauses have been added, while musical indications and directions not present in the original have been put in brackets.
In order to most effectively highlight the polyphonic direction of the parts it was, in rare instances, necessary to make some slight changes to the composition which in no way undermine the intentions of the composer.
The original ligatures have been maintained and the numerous portamentos and embellishments have been included in full, with clear and consistent notations.
The harmonics have been written using the modern rhomboid shaped noteheads, which indicate the resulting sounds.
The fingering for both the left and right hands present in the original manuscript has been respected and all of the rest-stroke notations have been included.
The difference between full barre and half barre, not always well-indicated in the original text, has been more clearly defined.
Repeated, redundant, or otherwise superfluous fingering has been eliminated from the lessons, while in some cases it was necessary to complete it. In very rare instances has it been modified slightly in order to adapt it to modern musical techniques.

La vita e l’arte di Aldo Ciccolini (Napoli, 1925), da enfant prodige a leggenda vivente del pianoforte, raccontate attraverso i dialoghi con Dario Candela in oltre sette anni di frequentazioni tra Napoli e Parigi.
Un incontro appassionante, che offre la straordinaria opportunità di avvicinarsi alla visione estetica e artistica del maestro napoletano direttamente dalla sua voce, dal quale traspare un’autentica vocazione musicale, una vera e propria missione: compito dell’interprete è “illuminare lo spartito”, svelandolo a sé e agli altri. Dario Candela (Napoli, 1970) è stato allievo di Aldo Ciccolini. Collabora a progetti di ricerca musicologica dell’Università “Federico II” di Napoli, dove si è laureato in lettere. Ha pubblicato diversi saggi musicologici e un libro sulla fisiologia pianistica.

He has published various musicological essays as well as a book on the physiology of playing the piano.

Source text - Italian Pasta e patate della Valterrata con gamberi rossi e rafano
Ingredienti: 300 gr. pasta di Gragnano; 100 ml. olio extravergine di oliva; 200 gr. cipollotto; 100 gr. carote; 400 gr. patate della Valterrata; 80 gr. pecorino di Moliterno; 4 gamberi rossi (50 gr. cadauno); 20 gr. caviale Beluga; q.b. brodo di faraona; q.b. salsa di pomodoro; q.b. timo e maggiorana; q.b. peperoncino; q.b. rafano.
Pelare le patate e fare una dadolata, quindi metterle in acqua fredda. Soffriggere il cipollotto e le carote tritate con l’olio e il timo, aggiungere le patate crude, salare e cuocere per 5 minuti. Allungare con del brodo, macchiare con la salsa di pomodoro, aggiungere un pezzetto di scorza di pecorino e cuocere fino a che le patate siano cotte. Far rapprendere bene, regolare di gusto con la maggiorana e il peperoncino.
Cuocere la pasta al dente e far terminare la cottura nella zuppa di patate. Mantecare con il pecorino grattugiato, un filo d’olio a crudo, il rafano grattugiato e far riposare con un coperchio per almeno 3 minuti, come se fosse un risotto.
Versare la pasta e patate su un piatto fondo. Posare al centro un gambero rosso crudo con del caviale Beluga.

Boil the pasta until it is al dente, then add to the potato soup to finish cooking. Add the grated pecorino cheese, a drizzle of raw olive oil, and the grated horseradish. Cover and allow to sit for at least three minutes, like a risotto.
Spoon the pasta and potatoes into a pasta dish. Place a raw red prawn in the center and garnish with the Beluga caviar.

I was raised in the United States in a bilingual (Italian/English) household. I hold a BFA in theatrical performance and film from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and an Associates Degree in Massage Therapy from the Swedish Institute College of Health Sciences. I have lived in Italy since 2009 and began doing freelance translations almost immediately. Before moving to Italy I worked in musical theater in New York and regionally. I am also a classically trained soprano and appeared as a concert soloist in the Rome area up until becoming a mother, though I intend to get back to it as soon as my youngest child is a bit older. I love the flexible hours that freelance translating allows me as a stay-at-home mom.
