Bio
I am a 100% German Native speaker. In 1985 I moved to the United States from Heidelberg, Germany and started to work in the medical field 3 years later. At first I worked as a registration clerk in the Emergency Room, then as a unit secretary in the Neonatal Unit and for the past 21 years I work in Public Health as a Public Health Advisor. I am a Center for Disease Control (CDC) certified Disease Intervention Specialist. I have extensive experience in Maternal Child Health, Sexual Health including Syphilis, and HIV/AIDS. Besides providing education I also provide testing (blood draw, mouth swap, and finger stick) and inform/assist the private medical community in treating syphilis cases. I link newly diagnosed HIV positive citizen to medical care.
Throughout my professional work history I have provided interpreting services through my place of employment between patient and doctor/nurses. In addition, I have translated articles for my church and translate correspondence between church members and their German pen pals. I have enjoyed this type of volunteer work very much. Integrity and privacy is very important to me work since I handle medical and personal information of my patients and church members.
One of my strength is to provide flowing English texts – translating the message versus providing a literal translation. I found that very helpful with my work for my church. I am also able to provide medical translation which requires a more literal translation. Providing a top-notch translation is very important.
Becoming a freelance translator is a dream come true for me. I cherish my volunteer work and like to build on this and create a business that is meaningful and helpful to my community.
