Source text - English 8. INSTRUCTION
Local PWHT may be carried out using electrical resistance or electrical induction methods. Direct flame impingement by torch or burner flames is prohibited.
8.1. Thermocouples
1) Thermocouples shall be nickel-chromium/nickel-aluminum type K. The thermocouple attachment may be done by wiring for the thermocouple by low energy capacitor discharge or by welding. However, it is recommended to attach the thermocouple by capacitor discharge method, gap not exceeding 5 ㎜.
2) Thermocouples shall be attached on the weld or within 20 ㎜ from the weld edge to ensure an effective temperature control. Hot junctions shall be thermally insulated from direct radiation from the heating elements by application of a minimum of 3㎜ thick mineral or ceramic fiber insulation or high temperature putty.
3) The thermocouple to extension cable connection shall be clear from the heating zone. The thermocouple will be connected via color coded compensating cable to a potentiometer chart recorder.
4) Thermocouple attachment area will be filed clean after of PWHT cycle by light grinding and surface visually examined. A liquid Penetrant examination of the ground area may be requested if doubt.
5) Number and location of thermocouples are as following:
- NPS ≤ 4 : 1 thermocouple positioned in the pipe upper quarter where pipe in the horizontal axis position.
- 4 ＜ NPS ≤ 14 : 2 thermocouples minimum, placed 180°apart with one at the top and one at the bottom of the pipe on opposite sides of the weld joints in the horizontal axis position and at approximately opposite sides where pipe is in other than horizontal position.
- NPS ＞14 : 3 thermocouples minimum 120°apart from each other.
8.2. Compensating lead
Copper Constantan compensating lead shall be used. Copper lead (positive) shall be applied to the nickel chromium conductor (non-magnetic) and the constant lead (negative) to the nickel aluminum conductor (magnetic).
8.3. Recorders
The recorders shall be of the potentiometer self compensating type. Wherever possible, a constant voltage source shall be applied to one trace of the recorder.
8.4. Insulation
The pipe shall be insulated by either ceramic fiber meshed mats 20 to 30 ㎜ thick or mineral wool 50 ㎜ thick approximately. The insulation shall extend a minimum distance of 100㎜ beyond the edges of the heated band of 6 times the thickness of the pipes whichever is the greater. Insulation shall not be removed until the heat treated welded joint has reached approximately 60℃.

El PWHT local se puede llevar a cabo con el uso de los métodos de resistencia o inducción eléctrica. El uso de fuego directo por medio de sopletes o quemadores está prohibido.
8.1. Termopar
1) Los termopares deben ser del tipo K níquel-cromo/níquel-aluminio. El acoplamiento del termopar se puede realizar por medio de alambres cuya adhesión se puede conseguir con una descarga capacitiva baja o con una soldadura. Sin embargo, se recomienda conectar el termopar por medio del método de la descarga capacitiva sin que los espacios que se presenten superen los 5mm.
2) Los termopares se deben acoplar a la soldadura o dentro de 20mm del límite de esta para asegurar un control de temperatura efectivo. Las uniones calientes se deben aislar de la radiación directa de los elementos que produzcan calor por medio de la aplicación de un mínimo de 3mm de mineral grueso, aislamiento con mantos de fibra cerámica o masilla para altas temperaturas.
3) La conexión del termopar al cable de extensión no debe estar en el área de calentamiento. El termopar se conectará por medio de un cable de compensación a un registrador gráfico que va conectado al potenciómetro.
4) El área de acoplamiento del termopar se debe pulir después del PWHT con un desgaste suave de la superficie, la cual después se revisará por medio de un examen visual. En caso de presentarse alguna duda se podrá solicitar un ensayo con líquidos penetrantes sobre el área tratada.
5) La cantidad y la ubicación de los termopares se describe a continuación:
- NPS ≤ 4 : 1 termopar posicionado en la cuarta parte superior de la cañería la cual se encuentra en posición de eje horizontal.
- 4 ＜ NPS ≤ 14 : 2 termopares como mínimo, separados a 180° con uno en la parte superior y otro en la parte inferior de la cañería cuya posición está con eje horizontal y los termopares están en posiciones opuestas a las uniones de soldadura, aproximadamente, en lados opuestos cuando la cañería está en otra posición que no sea horizontal.
- NPS ＞14 : 3 termopares como mínimo con una separación de 120° los unos de los otros.
8.2. Compensación de plomo.
Se debe utilizar cable de compensación Cobre-Constantan. Se aplicará hilo de cobre (positivo) al cable conductor de Ni-Cr (no magnético) hilo de constantan (negativo) al conductor de Ni-Al (magnético).
8.3. Registradores de temperatura
Los registradores deben ser para el potenciómetro del tipo auto compensador. Cuando sea posible se debe aplicar una fuente de tensión constante a uno de los trazos del registrador.
8.4. Aislamiento
La cañería se debe aislar ya sea con mantos de fibra cerámica de 20 a 30 mm de espesor o con lana mineral de 50 mm de espesor aproximadamente. El aislamiento se debe extender por un mínimo de 100 mm más allá de la banda calentada y 6 veces el espesor de la cañería más gruesa. El aislamiento no se debe remover hasta que la unión de soldadura tratada con calor haya alcanzado aproximadamente los 60°C.

b. Preparación Exterior
Para la preparación al exterior del estanque se debe chequear el área del trabajo, se deberá revisar diariamente los andamios.
Deberá contar con una protección en todo el contorno del andamio que está construido para el estanque o Silo. Esta protección será de carpa de grueso espesor para que la proyección y posterior pintado dañe o contamine el entorno de equipo.
En el caso de Estanque y Silos hay dos tipos de preparación dependiendo lo que requiera el mandante. Una de ellas es SP2 y SP3. Estas se aplicaran cuando el cliente necesite una preparación superficial.
El otro tipo de preparación de estanque y Silo es SP5. Para eso se contara con equipos neumáticos como compresor y equipo de arenado. Equipo que debe contar con la certificación necesaria.
Se deberá chequear diariamente las herramientas para verificar que no estén en mal estado, estas herramientas serán utilizas por persona capacitado en la materia ya que son de alto impacto por la presión que generan.
c. Preparación Interior
Para la preparación dentro del estanque (espacio confinado) requiere de un permiso especial. Para esto se deberá contar con una medición que verifique que el ambiente este fuera de peligro (se adjuntara Procedimiento de trabajo Espacios Confinados).
Deberá contar con un equipo de extracción de aire por la polución del trabajo, además deberá trabajar por periodos cortos al interior ya que por el tipo de trabajo no se puede exceder de 1 hora de trabajo.
Posterior a eso deberá descansar 15 minutos, o tendrá que tener un relevo para mejorar la condición del trabajo.

b. External Preparation
In order to prepare the external area of the pond, the work area must be checked and scaffoldings must be verified in a daily basis.
Scaffolds assembled for the pond or the silo must have a protection around it. This protection will be a thick tent in order to avoid damage or contamination of the equipment from projection or painting works.
In the case of Ponds and Silos, there are two types of preparation depending on what X COMPANY requires. One of them is SP2 and SP3. These are applied when the client needs a superficial preparation.
The other type of preparation for Ponds and Silos is SP5. For this purpose there will be air pulse equipments such as compressor and sandblasting equipment. This equipment must have the necessary certification.
All tools must be daily checked in order to verify that they are in good conditions. Due to the high pressure that these impact tools produce, they will be used by personnel trained on the correct use of them.
c. Internal Preparation
For preparation inside the pond (confined space) this work requires a special permit. It must count with a measure that verifies the environment’s condition is good (Confined Spaces Procedure will be attached).
It must have air extraction equipment due to work pollution. Also workers must work in short periods because this kind of work cannot exceed 1 working hour.
After this the worker must rest for 15 minutes or will be replaced by other in order to improve work conditions.
