Vse manjšine so bile hitro podvržene asimiliaciji, najprej in najhuje Primorci pod fašizmom.
Translation - English After the era of the Protestant, Primož Trubar, who was the first to write the word Slovenes in 1550, Slovene common national identity developed slowly. It was only in 1843 that the term Slovenia was created and in 1848 the first national program, written by the rare Slovene intellectuals of the time. Slovenes lived in Austrian historical lands, of which a strong regional identity and national heterogeneity was characteristic; the eastern part of Slovene territory developed separately in the Hungarian part of the monarchy, with the local Slovenes (Prekmurian Slovenes) even developing their own literary language. With schooling at lower levels the Hapsburg Monarchy made it possible for Slovenes to be preserved as a nation, yet at the same time prevented them from achieving political autonomy. With the disintegration of the monarchy the majority of the Slovene nation came under the Yugoslav state, the entire western part, i.e. one-third of the population, under Italy, the northern part (Carinthia) under Austria, while the eastern part was divided between the Yugoslav and Hungarian states, with Yugoslavia receiving the larger part (Prekmurje) and Hungary the smaller part (the Raba Region). All minorities were quickly subjected to assimilation, with Slovenes of the Littoral experiencing it the first and the worst under Fascism. Under the Kingdom of Yugoslavia Slovenes became stronger economically and culturally, gaining a university as well; however, they failed to achieve their main goal: political autonomy. With resistance against the German, Italian and Hungarian occupiers during World War II they succeeded in preserving themselves as a nation, achieving a modification of the western border and the status of a republic in the Yugoslav Socialist Federation. They had their own assembly (parliament) and government (executive council); after the constitution of 1974 they were also given collective presidency of the republic, and in all national and republican constitutions after 1946 also the right to self-determination, including the right to secession.

Source text - Slovenian Hidrogeološke značilnosti območja odlagališča Sežana
Odlagališče komunalnih odpadkov Sežana (slika 6.1) leži na kraškem terenu, na litološkem kontaktu zgornjekrednega apnenca in dolomita z nezvezno plastjo prsti. Karbonatne kamnine so dobro zakrasele in razvite so različne kraške oblike, predvsem škraplje in vrtače.
S sledenjem smo želeli ugotoviti smeri in značilnosti odtekanja padavin s tega območja oz. vpliv odlagališča na kraške vode (Kogovšek, Petrič 2007).
Translation - English Hydrogeological Characteristics of the Sežana Waste Disposal Site
The Sežana waste disposal site (Figure 6.1) is located on karst terrain, on a lithological contact of Upper Cretaceous limestone and dolomite with a discontinuous layer of soil. Carbonate rocks are well karstified and various karst forms have developed, particularly karrens and dolines. In the area of Sežana, the density of karst caves per surface unit typically exceeds the average density for the entire Kras. In addition, numerous new shafts and crevices were discovered while constructing the motorway. These were often created along fissures and are smaller and inaccessible to humans in the upper parts, yet water can easily find its way through them to the underground.
The rocks are tectonically broken in several directions, of which the directions east-west, northwest-southeast and northeast-southwest prevail. Detailed structural and lithological mapping in a scale of 1:2500 has shown that the area of the landfill is dominated by broken and fissured zones, which are highly suitable for a vertical water flow (Kogovšek et al. 1996).
There is no surface water network, while underground water is located deep under the surface. It has been estimated that the thickness of the vadose or unsaturated zone under the landfill varies during different water levels between 185 and 255 m. Although the thickness of the unsaturated zone is quite high, the open fissures and a developed system of karst channels can form a fast connection between the surface and the level of underground water, thus enabling a fast vertical flow of water towards the saturated zone and, consequently, fast transport of pollution.
The tracing wished to determine the courses and characteristics of the draining of precipitation from this area or the impact of the disposal site on karst waters (Kogovšek, Petrič 2007).
