I am a linguist and experienced college professor (linguistics and Spanish as a foreign language), translator and interpreter. I am a native speaker of Spanish, born and raised in Uruguay, but with extensive experience living, studying and teaching abroad. I have lived, taught and worked for the last 11 years in the US.
As a linguist, I specialize and pay particular attention to different varieties of Spanish, and different registers.

- Umass Amherst Extension / Nutrition Department: Translation, proof-reading, and work with a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary group to provide educational materials in Spanish for low income Spanish-speaking families in Massachusetts. In cooperation with USDA, FNEP and EFNEP (2003- 2008). This translation work included the rewritingn of small newspaper (‘El Recaíto), children’s short stories, language games, and a wide array of rewriting work of health-related material aimed both at children and at their families. The target audience came from different Spanish speaking communities from inside and outside the United States, speaking many different varieties of Spanish.
This work was awarded the First Place for Newsletters, by the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (2006).
