During my corporate career, I worked in client and management roles with Ogilvy & Mather Taiwan, Sina.com and China.com, managing teams in the Greater China region. This made me appreciate the special challenges which come with developing technology products in rapidly developing markets.
After leaving the corporate world, I started to work as a freelance translator, interpreter and in localization. I have embraced the use of CAT tools and technology, and also like online social media (see below).
I am a frequent writer on the Chinese economy, politics and current affairs at Quora and my articles have been published on Forbes, Newsweek, Huffington Post, Slate, Business Insider and other publications. I have been selected as a Top Writer on Quora for 2013, 2014 and 2015, have more than 17,000 followers.
On Twitter, I have more than 5,000 followers. In addition, I manage a group on Facebook for those who want to study Chinese and prepare for the Hanyu Shipping Kaoshi 汉语水平考试, which currently numbers more than 32,000 members. The name of the group is Chinese Language Proficiency Test (HSK) Discussion Group .
Took the Level 5 HSK exam (administered by Hanban and given through Confucius Institutes worldwide) in October 2015 to serve as an indicator of my Chinese language proficiency.
The test is administered by computer, and is divided into three parts: listening comprehension听力, reading阅读 and composition作文, with a possible score of 100 in each part, making for a maximum possible score of 300.
My score was:
Listening comprehension: 98
