English to Swahili: Maputo Declaration General field: Medical Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Source text - English Fifteen years after the Maputo Declaration, only seven countries—Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Niger, Mali, Malawi, Senegal and Zambia—have consistently met this target. In fact, countries like Malawi even went beyond the target, achieving as high as 21% in 2013 compared to the average of 3.1% for sub-Saharan Africa. Several factors account for underinvestment in agriculture in Africa. The implementation of the Structural Adjustment Programme in Africa reduced agriculture financing; low international funding of agriculture weakens policy space for agricultural spending; low political will to accelerate input subsidies, expand extension workers, research and rural infrastructure, and high lending rates limit small-scale farmers’ access to finance. Land reform is key to address fragmentation and maximize the benefits of economies of scale in land use. African governments must be given policy space to invest in agriculture and agribusinesses to propel economic diversification.

ABOUT ME
I am currently a lead translation and localization expert in Kenya and East Africa. I have been translating from English to Kiswahili for more than 12 years (4 years a
freelancer and 8 years with Translators without Borders). I holds a
masters degree in Kiswahili Studies from the University of Nairobi. I have an outstanding translation profile and experience. I have wide experience in translating art,
literature, medical, pharmaceutical and health, IT, technical documents,
brochures, user manuals, marketing materials, humanitarian, political, science
and technology and business for many firms/organizations and institutions including Optum, Gengo, Lionbridge, Booking.com, Appen
and legal documents for Constitutional Implementation Commission, Kenya National
Human Rights Commission, World Vision, UNHCR, UNEP, UNOCHA, DRC, Save the
Children among others. I have also translated survey tools and Apps for
KESWA, Folio, ICAP, Population Council of Kenya and Other international
agencies. I am a translation expert who is a member of ProZ.com, a world-wide
community of professional translators across and East Africa
Interpreters and Translators Association. In addition to being a PhD student, I have published translation related articles in International Journal of
Humanities and Social Sciences. The current short story anthology text which is
used as a set-book in teacher training colleges in Kenya has been translated by me and published by East African Educational Publishers in a collection titled “Vazi la Mhudumu na Hadithi Nyingine”.
I am also translation trainer who trains linguists and language enthusiasts in practical
translations locally and internationally. I have trained over 500 translators
in Kenya and 80 internationally. Other than giving talks about translation, translation technology, I have attended major international translation events to
