Source text - Japanese 本論考では、「戦争と女性」に関する日本の戦後ポピュラーソングに焦点を当てる。具体的には、Akiko Kikuchiが1947年に発表した『Hosinonagareni』と、1954年に発売した『Ganpekinohaha』、およびYuriko Futabaが1972年にリバイバルソングとして大ヒットさせた『Ganpekinohaha』の三曲を取り上げる。そして、それらの曲のブームが、どのような社会背景や大衆の価値観、あるいは当時の「女性イメージ」や「母イメージ」と結びついていたのかについて分析する。結論的にいうならば、終戦直後の日本では、社会の貧困によって多くの女性が不幸になり、時には女性を売婦になってしまうこともあった。『Hosinonagareni』は売婦たちの悲しみについて歌った曲であり、それが歌の人気に結びついていた。1954年の『Ganpekinohaha』のヒットは、同年に設立された自衛隊に対しての国民の不信感や、60年安保闘争などと強く結びついていた。すなわち、戦争が原因で母と子が離ればなれになるという桃語りは、大衆による「母の悲しみ」への強い共感をつくりだし、「平和志向」や「再軍備反対」の世論へとつながっていたのだ。一方で、1970年代半ばにはYuriko Futabaがリバイバルソングとして『Ganpekinohaha』を歌い、その曲は空前の大ブームになった。その原因として、1970年代、子どもたちに勉強することばかりを強制していた「Kyouikumama」の存在が挙げられる。当時、「Kyouikumama」の存在は社会問題とされており、それとは全く違うような母親の在り方、すなわち現代ではすでに失われている「理想の母親」として、大衆は『Ganpekinohaha』を賞賛したのである。
Translation - English This paper focuses on popular songs about “the war and women” in post-war Japan. Three songs in particular were be examined; Akiko Kikuchi’s “Hohsi no Nagareni” and “Ganpeki no Hana,” released in 1947 and 1954 respectively, as well as Yuriko Futaba’s popular remake of “Ganpeki no Hana,” released in 1972. Analysis of these songs was conducted in connection to the societal background in which they gained popularity, such as mainstream values, and concepts of women and mothers that were held at the time. The results of this analysis suggested that directly after the war ended, many Japanese women were despondent and pushed into prostitution due to an impoverished society. The song “Hoshi no Nagareni” tells of the sorrows of prostitution, and this theme is directly connected to its success. The 1954 hit “Ganpeki no Hana” has strong connections to the suspicion Japanese citizens felt towards the Self Defense Force, which was established in the same year, as well as the massive protests in 1960 concerning the US-Japan Defense Treaty. Namely, the general public tended to be very moved by stories about “mother’s sadness”, especially in terms of mothers and children being separated by war. This had powerful correlations with peace-oriented public opinion and anti-rearmament attitudes of the time. On the other hand, Yuriko Futaba’s mind-70’s remake of “Ganpeki no Hana” gained mass popularity for different reasons. The 1970’s saw the appearance of the “kyouikumama” (literally “education-mama”), a type of mother who stressed education for her children above all else. The “kyouikumama” was treated as a social problem at the time, and the completely different kind of mother presented in “Ganpeki no Hana” produced feelings of longing for an “ideal mother” archetype that had already been lost from society. For these reasons “Ganpeki no Hana” was highly praised by the general public.
