My name is Andrew North and I am from the United States of
America, but am currently living in Spain. I have completed translation and
proofreading work (legal, government
(Spain), technical, financial & health insurance) from Spanish to
English for Translated.net
since January 2015. Since January 2018, I
have been working with TransPerfect as a Spanish Linguist. The work has
included translating, post-editing, and proofreading legal, medical, financial.
Marketing, and tourism texts, among others.
I lived in Spain from 2010 to 2015, before returning to the
United States. From January 2016 to
February 2017, I worked at the Comptroller of Maryland in Annapolis, Maryland
as a Bilingual Revenue Examiner. In addition to answering phone calls in both
English and Spanish (the callers were almost exclusively from Latin America), I
also translated documents from Spanish (Latin American dialects) to English.
Also, I had to be able to multitask, taking notes, researching accounts, and
speaking with taxpayers on the phone at the same time. In order to do this in an
extremely limited amount of time, I had to be able to type quickly. When I
interviewed for my job as a Bilingual Deputy Clerk at the District of Columbia
Courts, I took a typing test that showed that I can type more than 60 words per
minute.I edited documents
previously written in Spanish that needed to be proofread and corrected. In addition
to this,I translated documents from English to Spanish. I
worked with the District of Columbia Courts from February 2017 until March
2021.
On January 26th, 2017, I earned my DELE (Diplomas de Español como
Lengua Extranjera) C2 (Mastery) level certification from the Instituto Cervantes
in Spain. I traveled to Seattle, Washington to take the exam in November of
2016. This is the highest level that one can obtain. DELE is internationally
recognized among public and private educational institutions and authorities as
well as in the business world and chambers of commerce.
