I am a French and American National, who settled in France in 2005 and is now living on the French Riviera. I have a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Houston (1983), and have worked over 20 years for major international firms including Credit Lyonnais USA, and JP Morgan Chase in the US, and more recently, GE Medical Systems, and Hypo Real Estate Bank, AG in France.
I have acquired solid skills and experience over the years translating for the financial sector and have been involved in the review and translation of legal documentation. I have started the accreditation process to become a certified translator and legal expert, with the French Court of Appeal in Aix-en-Provence and successfully completed a university degree (D.U. Traducteur Expert Judiciaire) at the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis law school and a two-year graduate program in legal translation with CI3M.
I am currently working as a freelance translator under the name Riviera Translation, and a member of SFT (Société Française des Traducteurs), a professional association, representing translators and interpreters in France.
CLIENT CHARTER
What you can expect:
Professionalism, Commitment, Ethical Standards, a Sense of Urgency, Expertise…
• Riviera Translation is a member of the French National Translators Association (SFT) and carries liability insurance up to €100 000 provided by AXA France. Riviera Translation abides by the SFT Code of Ethical Standards.
• Confidentiality: Your documents and all communication between us are regarded as confidential and treated as such.
• Customer Satisfaction: Your satisfaction is paramount, and is the key to my success. I will do everything necessary to meet your expectations.
• Customer Specifications:
An initial meeting is always set up with the customers, whether in person, or via Skype session, to determine general specifications.
Do you already have a particular terminology database?
For whom is the document intended? Who is your target audience?
What is the purpose of the document?
What is your timeframe and ultimate deadline?
• Price quote: Most work is priced according to the number of source words in the source document. There is a standard minimum fee for short, one page documents, of €50. There will be no surprise as you will get a quote upfront. There is no additional charge for minor revisions, even after the work is finished (i.e. website revisions).
• Commitment: If a deadline is very tight, I will treat your order as a project and arrange to co translate with partner translators whom I know and trust. Most large volume source documents with very tight deadlines are treated as projects and involve more than one translator and one common proofreader.
• Strategic Partnerships:
All work needing to be certified (i.e. birth certificate or documents to be notarized) is done by a professional local translator and court interpreter.
I seek advice when needed from experts in their fields, including real-estate, law, website design, public relations, and communications sectors.
I also work with several translators, locally and in the United States, who provide proofreading services in their mother tongue.
• Proofreading: Proofreading is crucial and your work is always read at least 3 times; a final proofreading is provided by a third party as mentioned above.
• Formatting: The original format and presentation of the source document will be respected and maintained to the extent possible.
