English to Spanish: Emmanuel Levinas - Intersubjetividad General field: Other Detailed field: Philosophy
Source text - English The phenomenological descriptions of intersubjective responsibility are built upon an analysis of living in the world. These are unique to Levinas. They differ from Heidegger's analytic of existence. For Levinas, an ‘I’ lives out its embodied existence according to modalities. It consumes the fruits of the world. It enjoys and suffers from the natural elements. It constructs shelters and dwellings. It carries on the social and economic transactions of its daily life. Yet, no event is as affectively disruptive for a consciousness holding sway in its world than the encounter with another person. In this encounter (even if it later becomes competitive or instrumental), the ‘I’ first experiences itself as called and liable to account for itself. It responds. The ‘I’'s response is as if to a nebulous command. Nothing says that the other gave a de facto command. The command or summons is part of the intrinsic relationality. With the response comes the beginning of language as dialogue. The origin of language, for Levinas, is always response—a responding-to-another, that is, to her summons. Dialogue arises ultimately through that response. Herein lie the roots of intersubjectivity as lived immediacy. Levinas has better terms for it: responsibility is the affective, immediate experience of “transcendence” and “fraternity.” We will return to these themes.
English to Spanish: from Penguin: General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Source text - English Why does Mary Louise plunge deeper and deeper into her fantasies, rather than attempt to change her real life? Near the end of the novel, we are told that, for thirty-one years, Mary Louise "passed as mad and was at peace" (p. 221). To the other characters in the novel, Mary Louise does indeed appear mad. To the reader, whether she is mad or not depends on where the line is between the self-deception that makes life bearable and delusions so powerful as to negate reality.
English to Spanish: Fates of Pyruvate General field: Other Detailed field: Biology (-tech,-chem,micro-)
Source text - English In aerobic conditions, with mitochondria present, the two molecules of pyruvate produced from one molecule of glucose, is then transported to the mitochondria of the cell where it enters the TCA cycle. Via the TCA and ETC, energy is then generated and NAD is regenerated in the ETC.
Pyruvate cannot readily enter the TCA cycle and therefore, must be converted to alternative compound. Pyruvate is converted to Acetyl-CoA in the matrix of the mitochondria by the enzyme PYRUVATE DEHYDROGENASE. Pyruvate dehydrogenase is an enzyme complex that consists of three subunits. It also requires five co-factors in order to effectively catalyse the conversion of pyruvate to Acetyl-CoA. These 5 co-factors are Co-A, TPP, lipoate, FAD and NAD . During this process, there is loss of a carbon atom from pyruvate to form carbon dioxide. Additionally, NAD is reduced to NADH to facilitate the oxidation of pyruvate to acetyl-CoA. Hence, this reaction is an OXIDIZING DECARBOXYLATION.
At the end of the reaction, 2 molecules of pyruvate form 2 molecules of Acetyl Co-A 2 molecules of carbon dioxide NADH. This reaction is also IRREVERSIBLE. Once Acetyl CoA is formed, it is combined to oxaloacetate in the matrix of the mitochondria to form citrate in the TCA cycle. This occurs in plant, animal and some microbial cells with the essential requirement that aerobic conditions exist and mitochondria are present.
English to Spanish: Mergers & Acquisitons General field: Bus/Financial Detailed field: Business/Commerce (general)
Source text - English Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and corporate restructuring are a big part of the corporate finance world. Every day, Wall Street investment bankers arrange M&A transactions, which bring separate companies together to form larger ones. When they're not creating big companies from smaller ones, corporate finance deals do the reverse and break up companies through spinoffs, carve-outs or tracking stocks. Not surprisingly, these actions often make the news. Deals can be worth hundreds of millions, or even billions, of dollars. They can dictate the fortunes of the companies involved for years to come. For a CEO, leading an M&A can represent the highlight of a whole career. And it is no wonder we hear about so many of these transactions; they happen all the time. Next time you flip open the newspaper’s business section, odds are good that at least one headline will announce some kind of M&A transaction. Sure, M&A deals grab headlines, but what does this
