O início da travessia é a continuação da Estrada Velha do Grumari, que é acessada pela Estrada do Pontal perto do nº 1.400, no Largo de Piabas. Nesse larguinho, entre na Estrada Velha do Grumari – que neste ponto é bem larga, mas aos poucos vai se estreitando e se tornando mais bonita até perder todo o asfalto, ficando envolta por frondosas árvores – até chegar a outro larguinho, em que é possível estacionar alguns carros, 500 m após o início. A caminhada começa subindo essa mesma estradinha, que em pouco tempo se transforma em um estreito caminho, feito de uma mistura de cimento e pedras.
A subida começa suave por esse estreito caminho, salpicado por grandes blocos de pedra, e passa por algumas casas. Em pouco menos de 450 m, cruza-se um riacho sobre uma improvisada ponte e, em seguida, por uma bifurcação em que é preciso pegar à direita em aclive. Nesse ponto, existe uma placa com uma seta indicando o caminho correto para Grumari. Logo depois, o caminho passa por mais uma casa, e o piso cimentado desaparece, iniciando verdadeiramente a trilha, que segue ainda em aclive com a calha bem marcada.
Seguindo pela trilha principal, passa-se por mais alguns sítios, por um mirante marcado por uma grande árvore, de onde é possível ver parte do Recreio dos Bandeirantes e, ao fundo, com destaque, a Pedra Rosilha. Cruza-se pelo Rio Piabas e, logo, pela bifurcação do acesso secundário, que segue para Itapuca, à direita, assinalado com uma corrente. A travessia continua pela via principal, subindo sempre pelo caminho mais largo até chegar ao ponto de sela, a 183 m de altitude, ponto mais alto dessa travessia, depois de 1,2 km do início da caminhada. Nesse local, pode-se observar um portão de ferro, à direita, que fecha o acesso a uma estradinha; esta, na verdade, é o início da trilha para Itapuca, e que está descrita na “Travessia Grumari x Itapuca”.

1st section:
From Estrada do Pontal near # 1.400, at Largo de Piabas, access Estrada Velha do Grumari, which will eventually veer off as the trail. Near Largo de Piabas, Estrada Velha do Grumari is quite wide, but it gets progressively narrower and more beautiful. Leave the asphalt behind and keep following the road bounded by trees with a dense canopy to a wider area, where a few cars can park, 500 m (0.3 mi) from the starting point. Hike up this same small road that will gradually become a narrow path paved with a mix of cement and rocks.
The ascent is gradual and follows big boulders past some houses. In less than 450 m (0.3 mi), cross a rustic bridge over the creek, and then go up and right at the next intersection. At this point, an arrow sign points the correct way to Grumari. Soon after, the trail passes one more house, the pavement ends, and the trail veers off as a well-marked uphill path.
Follow the main trail, past some country houses to get to an overlook with a big tree, from where you can see part of Recreio dos Bandeirantes and Rosilha Rock on the background. Cross the Piabas Creek to get to the intersection with a secondary trail to Itapuca on the right, with chains. The trail continues ascending the wide, main path to the saddle, which is the highest point on this trail at 183 m (600 ft) of elevation, 1.2 km (0.75 mi) from the beginning of the trail. At the saddle, there is an iron gate on the right that separates this trail from a small road, which is the beginning of the trail to Itapuca, described on the Grumari x Itapuca Traverse.

How do I work, how do I see translation and what are my strategies?
I understand how the translation process works and I always try to analyze the underlying structure of a given text for translation and all of its aspects (grammar, semantics, pragmatics, style, terminology). This is crucial to detect possible problems and to find out the right solutions while dealing with them. That’s why the most important thing for me is to translate according to the meaning of the text and not the words per se. After translating the text and proofreading it, I always read final version of my translation without comparing it to the original. And then, when my “detector” for the idiomatically wrongly transposed elements is at the highest level, I am able to correct all the remaining traces of the foreign language I’ve been “contaminated” with during the process. I will do everything so that our reader doesn’t realize he is reading a translation!
