Source text - Spanish Comunicación: sin duda la actividad comunicacional más eficaz para impactar en las políticas públicas son las campañas que realizan las organizaciones o alianzas de estas para impulsar una propuesta de ley o, más ampliamente, para llamar la atención sobre la necesidad de modificar una práctica o reglamentar un derecho. Más allá de estas campañas masivas, las organizaciones de la sociedad civil en los últimos años han buscado desarrollar una mayor capacidad para elaborar estrategias de comunicación más sofisticadas a partir del reconocimiento de la multiplicidad de audiencias a las que deben llegar. Algunas organizaciones diseñan productos comunicacionales cada vez más diversos, con el objeto de llamar la atención de algún sector determinado. Con frecuencia las organizaciones han incorporado periodistas profesionales en su personal para encargarse ya sea de la política comunicacional en general o, en particular, de la relación con los medios masivos, lo que se ha visto reflejado en una mayor cobertura periodística de sus actividades.
Translation - English Communications: Without doubt the most effective communication activity for impacting public policy are campaigns that are carried out by organizations or alliances of organizations for the moving forward of a proposed law or, more largely, for calling attention to the need to change a practice or regulate a right. Beyond these massive campaigns, civil society organizations in the last few years have looked to develop a larger capability for mapping out more sophisticated communication strategies beginning with the recognition of the multifarious nature of the audiences they need
to reach. Some organizations are designing increasingly more diverse communication products, with the object of drawing the attention of some specific sector. Organizations have often incorporated professional journalists into their staff for taking over what is now the communications policy in general, or in particular, the organization’s relationship with mass media, which has been reflected in a larger media coverage of their activities.

After living in Argentina, Colombia, and Brazil, I went back to school in the U.S. and recently finished my master's degree in Spanish. I particularly enjoy translation because each sentence and paragraph presents a new puzzle both linguistically and culturally.
