I have an American English background and come from Northeastern Ohio, USA. That said, I also read and watch a lot of media from the UK, and am familiar with the conventions of British English.
I translate DE-ENand ES-EN (US/UK) and have been working since 2014. My primary specializations are business/marketing and industrial/technical translations, however, I have completed numerous projects covering a broad range of sectors and subjects.
At this point, I have essentially translated on every topic imaginable (I once even did a mobile dating game) except medical texts, since I have no background there.
I am proficient with most standard translation tools such as SDL Trados, Across, memoQ, and Wordbee. My daily capacity is 5-6k words for PEMT, 4-5k words for translation, and 6-7k words for review/proofreading.
My German background: I earned a B.A. in German Studies from The Ohio State University (OSU) in 2011, and I lived in Germany for around 4 years (Dresden, Bonn, and Berlin).
My Spanish background: I began studying Spanish in 2002, and earned a Spanish minor from OSU in 2011.
To keep up my German and Spanish outside of translation, I enjoy listening to music in those languages (especially Spanish!) and reading or watching the news in those languages.
I also have an intermediate level of proficiency (B1/B2) with French and Italian, which I am currently learning.
Furthermore, I earned a B.S. in International Business Administration from OSU, also in 2011, and attended Humboldt University of Berlin, where I took master-level courses in business and economics.
This education focused on linguistics, economics, business, general sciences, mathematics, statistics, and history.
Outside of linguistics, I have practical experience in teaching, academic research and writing, the credit and banking industries, the public sector, and the NGO landscape.
In summary, I have extensive translation, editing, writing, and research experience.
Last but not least, I am an avid reader and interested in many topics beyond my specific areas of expertise, further broadening the knowledge I draw on for translation, editing, and writing.
