Bio

I studied Linguistics and Literature in Spanish, Dutch and Latin at the universities of Antwerp and Leuven. I wanted to become a writer. I once wrote a story when I was 14 and I still write some poetry. I love being creative, which is why I am particularly passionate about translating comic books. After my university education I followed a course in literary translation and worked on a literary translation of a French novel during the 'Fabrique des Traducteurs' (a European project promoting literary translation).

In my professional career I first taught Dutch to illiterate immigrant children who had just arrived in Belgium. Afterwards I worked as an editorial assistant at Ballon Media, a publisher of comic books. In that house of books I got to learn a lot about translating (editing Dutch translations of French comics) and publishing.

In 2016 I decided to pursue my passion and to start working as a freelance translator, at first part-time but in the course of 2018 I decided to become a full-time translator.

At the age of six I started my career as a recreational soccer player and a few years later I also started cycling on a recreational level. I still play soccer and cycle today.

What I love about comic book translation is that it requires a whole lot of imagination and creativity. The text needs to fit into the balloons and in a few words you need to give the same information as the source text does. It is a challenge on different levels, and I like it.
