Translation - English “From the pronounced decline of the Oligarchic Republic in the XVIII century, up until the 1930s, Venice was a place of meditation, and often a cultural melting pot for innumerable intellectuals of every nationality. There was an uninterrupted stream of cultured visitors – sometimes living for years on the island city – who wondered if such a splendid, celebrated capital would end in ruin in the transition from the aristocratic society of the ancient regime to the modern bourgeoisie culture, or perhaps would find new dimensions in a rush of utopian ideals. The constant flow of elite tourists has integrated with the society of the city, often creating a space to affirm new sensibilities and ways of representing reality; new aesthetic-philosophic ideas, or ethical concepts, or schools of thought.”
