Nuko Keza azinduka iya rubika, anyura mu byapa, arakomeza ageze ku masenga y’impyisi, ahahurira n’impyisi iri kwiruka amasigamana.
Nuko irahagarara iramubaza iti: “Niko sha witwa nde?” Keza arayisubizi ati: “Nitwa Keza. Iwacu ni mu Inzozi hafi n’umurenge, nkaba nje kwa masenge I Kami ka muntu kureba ko bafite ubugari”. Nuko Keza akomeza urugendo. Ageze mu nzira akebutse inyuma ye abona abantu benshi n’amamodoka menshi, yibaza ikintu cyahabaye nuko nawe ajya kureba. Agezeyo asanga abantu benshi batangariye Ishusho ry’Intore z’umwami Kanyoni. Nawe arareba arishima, nuko akomeza urugendo.

Nuko umusaza aramukurura, Keza yitura hasi. Hirya y’abo haturuka umubyeyi ati : “ Muze, Have! Have! Reka uwo mwana!’’ Umusaza n’ikimwaro aramusubiza ati: “Ntacyo mugize rwose!” Umubyeyi ahagurutsa Keza aramubwira ati:“Ngaho komera kandi komeza urugendo.
Nuko umubyeyi ahindukirana umusaza aramutonganya, agira ati: “Muze, ntuzongere kunywa ibiyobyabwenge! Muriture ni inzoga mbi cyane, kuko iyobya ubwenge. Itazatuma ukora amahano, nko guhohotera abana, kandi dore wari ugiye kubikora!” Umusaza ati: “Yewe biteye isoni, ariko ntabwo nzongera”.
Keza nawe akomeza urugendo ageze kwa nyirarume, arasuhuza. Nuko baramwikiriza. Maze baramubwira bati: “Keza amakuru yo ku ruganda rutunganya ubugari mu Inzozi?” Keza arababwira ati: “Yewe turaho, tumeze neza!” ati: “Marume ari hehe ko mukumbuye none nkaba nta mubona hano?” Baramusubiza bati: “Yewe ntituzi aho yagannye, ariko twaherutse avuga ko agiye gusura umugabo w’inshuti ye ngo utuye hafi y’Imikindo i Kazizi ”.
Nuko keza arababwira ati: “Nari nje gusaba ubugari! Ese mufite ubugari ngo mumpe?” Nuko baramusubiza bati “Nta bugari buhari. Ariko icara kuri kariya gasongabugari tuguhe umutobe maze wice akanyota”
Keza aricara bamwakiriza umutobe, aranywa, ashira inyota maze baramuherekeza bamurenza ishyamba nuko bamusezeraho arataha.
Araza jugujugu ngo agere mu rugo hakiri kare, ageze aho ateganye n’umusozi w’Ijuru rito, ahasanga abana bakina, nawe arakina. Ariko Keza ashonje cyane. Nuko agakina yibwira ati: “Aba bana nibataha, nange ndataha. Nibarya nange, ndarya”.
Igihe cyo gutaha kigeze, Keza akurikira abana nuko baratahana. Bageze hafi y’urugo, babwira Keza bati: “Sigara hano tujye mu rugo, turahita tugaruka kukureba. Nuko Keza aricara abana binjira mu rugo iwabo”.
Abana bageze mu rugo, umubyeyi wabo abaha ibiryo harimo umuceri ngo bari bakuye ku ruganda rw’umuceri ubwo baherukaga kujya gukorerayo kuko ngo bari baronseyo umusiri ku mukungu utuye hafi y’uruganda .Ndetse babahaye n’imboga z’imbwija zigeretse ku bishyimbo gusa bari bavanzemo n’utuboga tw’agashogoro gake baranabirunga. Nuko abana bararya, barijuta, barasohoka bahamagara Keza ngo aze basangire ku byo bari bamusigarije. Keza, arahaguruka arabasanga, nuko bararya. Keza arishima, agenda akomba intoki kuko byari biryoshye cyane. Maze abasezeraho arataha.
Uko yagakererewe, yamanutse umucyamo wose aca iz’ubusamo ngo agere mu rugo butarahumana. Keza agiye kugera iwabo, akoma agatima kuri nyirakuru wari tuye mu gikombe ku Ishyamba ry’umunezero, ahita atekereza ko yacayo akamuramutsa. Nuko amanuka shishi itabona anyurayo. Agezeyo, asanga nyirakuru yicaye munsi y’igiti cy’umwembe arimo yica imigi y’imbaragasa n’inda ku mweko w’ingutiya yari yambaye!
Nyirakuru amubonye arishima, aramubaza ati: “None se mwana wange uje kwenda iki aya masaha?” Keza ati “Nari nje kureba ko ufite ubugari ngo umpe nyogoku”. Nuko nyirakuru aramubwira ati: “ Nta bugari buhari. Ariko hariya mu cyumba, hari utwumbati turi mu kamuga, turebe udusekure maze turebe ko twakuramo agafu ndetse na hariya mu kebo harimo udutagarasoryo n’utudodo utebutse urebe uko watujaranganya ukore ifunguro ryaduhembura mwana wa!”
Nuko Keza yinjira mu mbere afata isekuru, areba mu mfuruka afata n’umuhini, avungagura imyumbati avanga n’inshunga nuko atangira gusekura, ariko anashyushya udushyimbo twari twagaze ku ziko. Uko akoranya umuriro, akaza akanasekura vuba na bwangu. Aranoza maze, ashaka akayunguruzo, ayungurura ubwa mbere, yongera anyuzamo ubwa kabiri arongera arayungurura.
Keza yagize vuba, ateka imboga, ararangiza. Gusa agarutse asanga inkoko itaye amatotoro muri ya fu. Kubera ubwira bwinshi inkonko yari yamwinjiranye ari gucuma imboga. Yahise aza afata akebo yanzura ya fu, ajya kwarika ubugari kuko amazi yo yari yamaze kubira. Amaze kubucumba, yabwaruriye ku nkoko, arongera ashyushya imboga, acishamo umudaho, aragaragura, hanyuma yarurira nyirakuru. Aramuhamagara bararya, basomeza n’amata. Bamaze kurya, yoza isahani baririyeho ndetse atunganya n’ibyansi byari birimo amata, arataha.
Translation - English KEZA, A PASSIONATE FAN OF UGALI
Keza was a young girl. Whose home region was called Inzozi (Dreams). Inzozi was a region rich in ugali. Her family used to be fond of ugali. Thus, Keza passionately enjoyed it too much.
One day, at her home there was no ugali, she came up with an idea to go to her paternal aunt who lived in Kami ka muntu just near Udusaro tw’abakobwa [area:Girls’ pearls], to ask for ugali.
Then, Keza set out early, she passed via Ibyapa [ a centre known as: Announcement boads], she continued and reached Amasenga y'Impyinsi [A place: Dens of hyenas], there she ran across a hyena running too fast.
Hyena stopped and asked Keza: “Young girl, what's your name?” Keza replied: “I'm called Keza. My home is in Inzozi next to the sector office, and I’m now heading to my paternal aunt who lives in Kami ka muntu to ask for ugali”. Hyena asked her again: “So what if I accompany you?” Keza replied: “No I'm in hurry”. Hyena asked: “Why are you in hurry?”
“My parents gave me a lamb and ordered me to take it to my paternal aunt who lives in this area but unfortunately it has gone astray behind this hill of leopards” Keza replied. So Hyena immediately got frightened and said “‘Leopards?’ and told her Let me stride back to bring the lamb so I'm coming back shortly to accompany you!” Then Hyena strode back and ran away.
Keza too started to run hurriedly happy but also afraid that Hyena would come back. Keza reaching the house of her Paternal aunt, the latter immeadiately asked Keza: “Why are you so frightened what happened my daugher?” Keza replied: “There to the other side of the hill just around Amasenga y'Impyisi, I ran across a hyena eager to accompany me. Therefore, I lied it that I brought a lamb and that it had gone astray in the hill of leopards so Hyena subsequently strode back and I immediately hurried so frightened. Paternal aunt bewailed: “Alas! You have escaped from the Hyena, my daughter? Glory be to God”.
Her paternal aunt asked Keza: “Why are you coming here now? Is your early-bird journey peaceful?” Keza replied: “I just came to ask for ugali”. Her paternal aunt replied: “Uh-huh! Sit to that small mat, so that we serve you with milk and drink with a sweet potato and feel relaxed”.
Keza sat on the mat and they served her with butter milk with a sweet potato, and they served her with green vegetables made of cleome gynandra mixed with beans she ate, she felt satisfied and relaxed. Then after, she waved bye to the family, then her paternal aunt accompanied her up to the next side from the home of King Kanyoni located in the small forest known as Uduti tw’amahumbezi[Trees of fresh air], and they shaked hands to say good bye.
Keza continued her journey. On midway, when she looked behind and she saw many people and many parked cars, she wondered what had happened so she too went to watch. Reaching there she realized that many people were surprisedly staring at the picture of the dancers of the King Kanyoni [Dancers: Intore] She joyfully watched too, then she continued her journey.
When she got next to the tree known as Igiti k’ibanga ry’urukundo[Secrets of love Tree], she came up with an idea to go to visit her uncle who lived next to Idebe rivuga [Place:A board known as a noisy vessel], bypassing a short distance from uduti tw’amahumbezi [Trees of fresh air] but it was a far way comparing to where she was standing by then.
So she continued her journey, reaching next to the Bushishi forest, she met a drunken old man, who had taken much drugs of muriture [A dangerous drinking drug]. And the old man asked her: “Hey young beautiful girl, where are you going? You are such a beauty!” Keza replied: “I'm heading next to Urutare rwera rukirabura at the house of my uncle to visit them and to ask for ugali. He lives in the fields that used to be occupied by Kanyoni, the King of Abaserega, It is said they were brave worriors ever though tricked and conquered by Kanyoni's father-in-law Kirezi I, the King of Gacu”.
The old man tricked Keza: “Wow!! A brilliant young you are in our History! Approach me I have something to tell you!” So Keza immediately replied: “No, I'm in hurry”. Then the old man snatched Keza, she fell down. Next to them there came someone, mzee, stop! Stop! Please don't abuse that young girl! An old man, so ashamed replied: “I've done nothing really madam!” She held the Keza's hand up and implored her: “Be strong and keep going ahead you are safe.
Then, a mama turned to the old man and harshly harassed him, rebuking him: “Mzee, do not take drugs anymore! Muriture is a very dangerous type of beer, as it takes you out of mind. It can mislead you in committing immoral acts, such as child abuse, and simply see you've been already in attempt!” The old man ashamedly added: “D'oh that was shameful! But I'll never take alcohol again”.
Keza continued her journey and reaching at her uncle, she greeted. Then they greeted back: “What's new about the Cassava mill plant in Inzozi?” Keza told them: “We are okay, everything is great!” She replied: “Where is my uncle I have missed him too much yet I don't see him here?” They replied her: “Oh dear we don't know his whereabouts, but lastly heard that he was about to go to visit his friend it's said that the friend who is believed to live around Imikindo in Kazizi”.
So Keza told them: “I just came to ask for ugali! Do you have ugali to give me?” Then they answered “There is no Ugali. But you can sit on that bamboo traditional stoo –So as we serve you with banana juicy to quench your thirst”
So Keza sat on the stool and got welcomed with banana juicy, she drank, and quenched her thirst then they accompanied her all the way through forest and they shaked her hand to say good-bye.
She descended straightforward to reach her home early, reaching the descent where she was straightly parallel to the hill known as Ijuru rito [Small Heaven hill], she found there children playing, she played too. However, Keza was so hungry. So while playing she had such hopes that when the children go home, she would follow them. If they're offered something to eat, she will eat too”.
When the time to go home came, Keza followed other children and they went home together. Reaching the compound, they told Keza: “Stay here we're going indoors, and we'll come back to take you. So Keza sat there and the children went into the compound of their home”.
Reaching there, their mother served them with something to eat including rice, which is believed to have been bought from the rice mill plant, the time when they lastly went to commute there as they had got wage job to the wealthy man who lived near the Rice Mill Plant. And they were seved with the green vegetables including amaranth cooked with beans however this was also mixed with little legumes from bean leaves to which were added seasonings. Therefore, the children ate, got satisfied, and got out to call Keza to come indoors to share food that was remaining. Keza, stood up and approached them, so they shared food. Keza felt happy, and went back home licking her fingers because the food was really delicious. Then she shook their hands to say goodbye.
As she had got late, she descended the hillside shortcuts to reach her home before it gets dark. Keza when she was about to reach her home, she thought of her grandmother who was living in the hillside gulf of Ishyamba ry’umunezero [Joy forest]. She thought to pass by her grandmother to greet her. So she descended quickly and went to see her. Reaching there, she found her grandmother sitting under the mongo tree squeezing eggs of fleas and lice on the flank tread of her old skirt!
When the grandmother saw Keza, she was thrilled and asked: “Yoo-hoo my daughter why are coming here at this time?” Keza replied “I just came to ask for ugali, Grandma!”. then her grandmother told her: “There is no ugali. However, there inside the room, there are some dried cassava in a marmite, get them and pound them and let's try any means to find flour to make ugali and in the small basket there are little garden-eggs and amaranth do quickly and find means to prepare a quick meal to satiate away our hunger my daughter!”
Keza entered indoors and grabbed a mortar, so quickly he turned in the corner and took a pestle, she pulverized the dried cassava fragments and mixed with pulverized cassava leftovers so she started pounding, hand in hand with warming spoiled cooked beans on fireplace. In the meantime, the more she rushed to keep the fire set on, the quicker she had to come back to pound quickly too. She refined, and searched for a filter, she filtered for the first round, she filtered for the second round and she filtered one more round.
Keza did it too quick to finish preparing the souce. But when she was back from the kitchen, she accidently found that the chicken had dropped her shit in the flour. Due to her speed, a chicken had entered the house at no see, while she was chopping amaranth and vegetables. She immediately came and mounted the flour up in the small basket, so she continued and went to make ugali as the water had already boiled.
After mashing the ugali, she put it on the bamboo woven flat basket, she made up the wooden masher, she rewarmed the souce, and remixed up with the wooden spoon, she remixed again and she served her grandmother. She welcomed her to the table to dine with her, they also drank milk. After the dinner, she washed the used dishes and she washed used milk containers, then she went home.
