A patent for an invention is the grant of a property right to the inventor, issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Generally, the term of a new patent is 20 years from the date on which the application for the patent was filed in the United States or, in special cases, from the date an earlier related application was filed, subject to the payment of maintenance fees. U.S. patent grants are effective only within the United States, U.S. territories, and U.S. possessions. Under certain circumstances, patent term extensions or adjustments may be available.
The right conferred by the patent grant is, in the language of the statute and of the grant itself, “the right to exclude others from making, using, offering for sale, or selling” the invention in the United States or “importing” the invention into the United States. What is granted is not the right to make, use, offer for sale, sell or import, but the right to exclude others from making, using, offering for sale, selling or importing the invention.
A patente de uma invenção é a concessão de um direito de propriedade para o inventor, emitido pelo United States Patent and Trademark Office (equivalente no Brasil ao Instituto Nacional de Propriedade Industrial). Geralmente, o prazo de validade de uma patente é de 20 anos a contar da data em que o pedido foi depositado nos Estados Unidos ou, em casos especiais, a partir da data em que um pedido relacionado foi depositado anteriormente, sujeito ao pagamento de taxas de manutenção. As concessões de patentes nos EUA são válidas somente dentro dos Estados Unidos e seus territórios. Em algumas circunstâncias, poderão ser disponibilizadas extensões de prazo ou ajustes.
O direito conferido pela concessão de patentes, na língua dos estatutos e da concessão é "o direito de excluir outros de fazerem uso ou oferecer para venda" a invenção nos Estados Unidos ou "importar" a invenção para os Estados Unidos. After working for almost 30 years as an Executive Assistant, I decided to upgrade my career.
I'm almost finishing my second graduation in Translation and Interpretation and I'm going to work in both my current job as an Executive Assistant and in parallel finding any freelance jobs during my free time.
The experience in a law office made me familiar with the terminology in law. For this reason, I feel comfortable looking for jobs in this area. Also, I'm passionate about subtitling where I'm developing more experience through TED Talks translations.
