I am a native speaker of both Korean and German, fluent in English, based in Berlin — working as a conference interpreter, translator, and intercultural consultant under my brand koricon (koricon.de).

Since 2018 I have provided uninterrupted interpreting for Korean regulatory inspections (KGMP, MFDS, KCL) at pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. I know GMP terminology, audit protocol, and the communication dynamics of high-stakes regulatory settings — environments where a single mistranslated term has material consequences.

Arts, Culture & Media.

I interpret for major cultural institutions, book fairs, publishing houses, broadcast media, and corporate clients. In September 2026, I am providing simultaneous interpretation for Nobel laureate in Literature Han Kang at the Berliner Philharmonie (Satzwechsel, internationales literaturfestival berlin), where I have also assembled and am supervising the entire Korean-language interpreting team.

Background & Qualifications

I hold B.A. degrees in English and in German Language and Literature, an M.A. in German Language and Literature, and I am a doctoral candidate. I lecture in Korean and German at universities in Germany and previously in Korea, and I teach my own language academy (German, Korean, and English). I am a certified TESOL and Korean language instructor with formal teacher training in both languages, and a published translator. Earlier in my career, I served as a political consultant to the Korean government.

Born, schooled, and university-educated in Seoul/Korea and Germany, I command Standard Korean at the highest academic register, including broadcast-standard training — alongside native German (Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom, Wirtschaftsdeutsch=Business German). My French (B2) and foundational Latin and Spanish help me understand my clients' needs better.

Clients include pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, auditing institutions, governmental bodies, universities, celebrities, start-ups and corporations, publishing houses, print and broadcast media, and cultural organisations.

Working principles.

I work exclusively at professional rates customary in Germany and Switzerland. I do not use public machine translation or AI tools on confidential client content. Assignments outside Berlin require compensation for travel time, travel, and accommodation.
