Translation education
Graduate diploma - Universidade de São Paulo (USP)
Experience
Years of experience: 28. Registered at ProZ.com: Feb 2017.
Although I was born in Brazil, my very
first language was German because my father was born in Germany and his mother
tongue became our home language. As a consequence, I lived all my childhood in
a German community. In addition, I have also learned English and Portuguese at
home as my father was a multilingual man. I have always studied at bilingual
(Portuguese/German) and trilingual (Portuguese/English/German) schools and have
improved my English with a native teacher. I have learned Spanish when I was in
the Import/Export area at the beginning of MERCOSUL. At that occasion I had
contact with almost all countries in Latin America and Spain.
I also attended Language and Literature at
Universidade de São Paulo (USP), one of the most prestigious colleges of
Brazil. Other languages I have knowledge of are: French, Italian, Latin and
ancient Greek, which are very helpful in the translations I make.
I worked for 10 years in the Import/Export
area, managing the department for 5 years. During the last 28 years I have been
working as a professional full-time freelance translator.
As a translator I can say that over the
years I have developed a great experience to translate almost everything having
already gone through almost all fields of knowledge. And this is the very best
part of being a translator: Translating from Medicine to Law going through
Technical, Commercial and Social Sciences, not forgetting Entertainment, which obviously includes Games, up to
whatever is needed, doing my very best in every project with dedication,
responsibility and passion.
Another point to be mentioned is
transcreation. Yes, because transcreating is an art in which I can (and have
to) use my linguistic creativity, and this is simply delightful!
In the Subtitling area I have been working
actively for the last 8 years with two companies having already translated from
English into Brazilian Portuguese many movies and series, including cartoons.
