My name is Ahmet Yildirim. I am a German lawyer running a company called Rechtssprache Dolmetscher that specializes in teaching and organizing seminars to equip interpreters and translators with the skills they need to work professionally in a legal context.

Germany is in dire need of highly qualified interpreters to work in legal settings - particularly in court and law enforcement proceedings entailing high risks, as core values including personal freedom are often at stake. According to several needs assessments conducted by many German states, there is a shortage of interpreters qualified to work in legal settings. Therefore, our company offers training and certification to interpreters in this area of specialization.

Legal interpreting has long been a respected and highly sought after specialization among German interpreters, offering a wide range of professional opportunities including law enforcement investigations, interviews and interrogations, client-attorney interactions, court and legal proceedings.
Traditions from liaison interpreting and applied interpreting scholarship, as well as experience from the legal community determine the skills and procedures applied in legal interpreting. As a result, a range of best practices has been identified that now guides the work of practitioners in this area of specialization.
The seminar I would like to offer to your interpreters would be a first step toward understanding German legal terminology. It is designed for interpreters who are still new to the legal field or have recently started working in it. At the end of the seminar, participants will have a sound basic knowledge of German legal structures and the specific terminology found in various legal settings in Germany.

Ahmet Yildirim is a German lawyer and CEO of Rechtssprache Dolmetscher, a company offering for 4 years legal language expertise and seminars. He also works as a court-certified legal interpreter for the languages Turkish and Kurdish. As a translator he specializes in legal and certified document translations, as well as contract consulting.
