Bio
I started translation profession
way back in 2011 not as a contracted freelancer, but by that time, I used to
translate church documents from English into Luganda/Ganda for certain
individuals and church groups who did not understand English. When I completed
my Masters in Development studies, I was then contracted by African Voices
Dubbing Company (AVDC) Kenya and I left Uganda for Nairobi. I worked for AVDC
from December 2015 to September 2018.
While working with AVDC, I used
to translate huge volumes of material from English into Luganda and from Luganda
into English. These included materials like; movies, documentaries, synopses,
movie series, cartoons, adverts, law documents, letters, health related
documents, accounts documents, environmental related documents, and any other
documents that I was assigned to me by the company. Still with AVDC, besides
leading the Luganda team, my major duty was translate material from English to
Ganda/Luganda and Ganda/Luganda into English, dubbing those movies into
Luganda/Ganda, editing and proofreading translated material, audio and video
transcription, video quality check ensuring that the dubbed luganda/Ganda words
are given proper pronunciation, video and audio subtitling and dubbing and interpretation.
Having mastered the art and science of
translation, I was then outsourced by other translation companies like CAN
TRANSLATORS and the first assignment I did for this company was to translate
classified documents for United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Kenya. From
then on, I have been assigned by many translations, transcriptions, editing and
proofreading freelance assignments by a number of international translation companies.
Besides
taking a lead in English-Luganda translations,
I have been coordinating the translations, transcriptions, editing and
proofreading of material for other Ugandan languages.
I came to realize that in the process
of translation, some English words may not necessarily have a direct
translation in another language. Therefore, in order to translate them, the
translator may need to use more there words to bring out the meaning of the
word or sentence being translated.
All in all, even though I have not yet
obtained academic qualification in Translation, the experience I have puts me
in position of handling variety of translation scripts without any difficulty
given that experience is the best teacher.
