Se você chegou a assistir ou até maratonar as novas temporadas da serie da televisão espanhola La Casa de Papel, com certeza ouviu o personagem Palermo usar algumas vezes a expressão “Sudaca”
O que significa isso? Qual a origem e a conotação desse adjetivo?
Bom, de acordo com o dicionário da Real Academia Espanhola, originalmente trata-se de uma expressão usada na Espanha para se referir aos sulamericanos. Em castelhano, América do Sul é “Sudamerica”, e dai que deriva “Sudaca”. Outras variações, como “Sudoca”, tem significados parecidos.
Na serie, como vocês podem perceber, esse adjetivo é usado como um insulto contra o argentino. Isso é porque na verdade essa palavra era, e é, uma expressão xenófoba, usada como termo depreciativo para os sulamericanos. Aliás, Sudaca se referia aos latinoamericanos em geral, sejam do sul, norte ou centro do continente.
Bom, vamos voltar um pouquinho…
Durante o começo da época de transição da Espanha posfranquista, ao redor de 1980, acontecia a movida madrileña: um movimento de contracultura em Madrid que tomou as noites movimentadas da cidade. Esse movimento coincidiu com a chegada de muitos exilados políticos chilenos, argentinos e uruguaios. Boa parte desses imigrantes, expulsos por ditaduras de direita nos seus países, foram muito solidários aos movimentos da transição posfranquista, somando com suas visão de mundo e sua arte. Chegaram com a sua literatura, músicas andinas, charangos, bombos, guitarras, flautas, quenas, entre outros.. que fizeram o folclore sul-americano gerar o que foi conhecido como “La Movida Sudaca”.
Isso gerou um contrafluxo racista e xenofóbico, que trouxe uma forte intenção pejorativa desse nome, diminuindo a cultura sulamericana.
Vamos mudar isso ai?
Na própria serie La Casa de Papel, o personagem Palermo se apropria do termo como resposta ao suposto insulto. Isso porque somos sudacas sim, com orgulho da nossa diversidade e unidos por cores e dores da nossas história.
Sudaca não é insulto, é identidade.
E sejam bem vindes, ao Baile Sudaca.

Si viste o incluso hiciste moratón de las nuevas temporadas de la serie de televisión española La Casa de Papel, ciertamente escuchaste al personaje de Palermo usar a veces la expresión “Sudaca”.
¿Qué significa eso? ¿Cuál es el origen y la connotación de este adjetivo?
Pues bien, según el diccionario de la Real Academia Española, originalmente es una expresión utilizada en España para referirse a los sudamericanos. En castellano, América del Sur es "Sudamérica", y de ahí "Sudaca". Otras variaciones, como "Sudoca", tienen significados similares.
En la serie, como pueden ver, este adjetivo se usa como un insulto al argentino. Llegaron con su literatura, música andina, charangos, tambores, guitarras, flautas, quenas, entre otros ... Que hicieron que el folclore sudamericano generara lo que se conoció como "La Movida Sudaca".
Esto generó un contraflujo racista y xenófobo, que trajo una fuerte intención peyorativa de ese nombre, menoscabando la cultura sudamericana.
¿Vamos a cambiar eso?
En la serie La Casa de Papel, el personaje Palermo se apropia del término en respuesta al supuesto insulto. Eso es porque somos sudaneses, orgullosos de nuestra diversidad y unidos por los colores y dolores de nuestra historia.
Sudaca no es un insulto, es identidad.
Y bienvenides al Baile Sudaca.

Composition seeks to give voice to thousands of women who suffer, or have suffered, any type of abuse.
Representatives of feminine strength and sensitivity, the brazilian duo Napkin, formed by Kimberly Neves and Natana Alvarenga, is preparing for the release of the first video clip of the album “I.NN.PAK” (2019). The chosen track, “Soul on Fire”, also marks the duo's first collaboration, as it was composed in partnership with DJ / Producer narrow-j.
“We already knew and admired narrow-j's work , and finally inviting her to this collab made us very excited. We knew it would be a strong song in many ways. When we realized what we had in hand, we decided to be a song 100% made by women, to give even more visibility to the cause ”, comments Natana Alvarenga, vocalist and guitarist of the duo.
The video, which will be released on August 6th on Napkin's YouTube channel, featured a mostly female technical team, leaded by Karina Oliveira, who makes her debut as a director.
“Soul on Fire” is a work of art inspired by another: the song began to be written by the trio unpretentiously, in 2017, having as reference the film “Room” (2016, starring Brie Larson with direction by Lenny Abrahamson). In the film, the protagonist is a victim of kidnapping, confinement and rape for years.
The composition, however, was kept in the dark until 2019 and returned to the surface when Napkin started to prepare for the recording of its debut album, “I.NN.PAK”, released in October of the same year.
The moment for the release of the track (which brings a strong influence of the trap and future bass strands, resulting from the collaboration with DJ / Producer narrow-j), could not be better, since the album marked the beginning of a new phase, with more electronic sounds for the duo.
The song is currently among the most heard on the album, which attracted the attention of the artists to carry the message forward with a visual and immersive appeal to the theme. It is worth mentioning that the track in question was entirely produced by the trio, mixed by Kimberly Neves herself and mastered by the mastering engineer Piper Payne, from the Infrasonic Mastering studio, in Oakland, California.
"Soul on Fire" talks about the difficulty in overcoming a trauma and the struggle to move forward, even when you free yourself from it. The trio's aim is to bring awareness to the topic and give voice to thousands of women who suffer, or have already suffered, any type of abuse, whether physical or verbal.
"What we want to bring up is how the theme is present on the daily basis of all women, from our childhood to adulthood. Unfortunately, as women, at least at some stage in our lives we have already experienced some kind of abuse or oppression. At some point we have already felt invaded, disrespected and abused, often because of the normality imposed by the macho society that ends up making us believe that we have no right for protection", says narrow-j.
In a delicate period in which we are all living due to the pandemic, the moment becomes even more propitious for addressing the issue, since there is a 46% increase in femicide during the quarantine (data from the Brazilian Public Security Forum).
With the editing and finishing by Moises Oliveira (director with international experience, winner of 9 awards for works for the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, in Washington, DC), the video for “Soul on Fire” has undoubtedly been added to a team of great weight and promises to leave an important legacy in the career of the artists.

About narrow-j: Jessica Niehues, aka narrow-j, is a DJ and music producer who covers breakbeats from trap to future bass with a versatility that permeates the most intimate and introspective tracks to the most pop and contagious ones. With dynamic sets, BPMs vary naturally, where strands of House Music often end up falling subtly amid their broken beats. Composição busca dar voz a milhares de mulheres que sofrem, ou já sofreram, qualquer tipo de abuso.
Representantes da força e sensibilidade femininas, o duo Napkin, formado por Kimberly Neves e Natana Alvarenga, se prepara para o lançamento do primeiro videoclipe do álbum “I.NN.PAK” (2019). A faixa escolhida, “Soul on Fire”, marca também a primeira colaboração do duo, pois foi composta em parceria com a DJ/Produtora narrow-j.
“Já conhecíamos e admirávamos o trabalho da narrow-j, e finalmente convidá-la para esta collab nos deixou empolgadas demais. Sabíamos que seria uma música forte em vários sentidos. Ao perceber o que tínhamos em mãos, decidimos por ser uma música 100% feita por mulheres, para darmos mais visibilidade ainda à causa”, comenta Natana Alvarenga, vocalista e guitarrista do duo.
O clipe, que será lançado no dia 6 de agosto no canal do YouTube da Napkin, contou com uma equipe técnica majoritariamente feminina, com destaque para Karina Oliveira, que faz sua sua estreia como diretora.
“Soul on Fire” é uma obra inspirada em outra: a música começou a ser escrita pelo trio despretensiosamente, em 2017, tendo como referência o filme “O Quarto de Jack” ( de 2016, estrelado por Brie Larson com direção de Lenny Abrahamson). No filme, a protagonista é vítima de sequestro, confinamento e estupro por anos.
A composição, no entanto, ficou engavetada até 2019 e voltou à tona no momento em que a Napkin começava a se preparar para a gravação do seu álbum de estreia, “I.NN.PAK”, lançado em outubro do mesmo ano.
O momento para o lançamento da faixa (que traz forte influência das vertentes do trap e future bass, provenientes da colaboração com a DJ/Produtora narrow-j), não poderia ser melhor, visto que o álbum marcou o início de uma nova fase, com sonoridades mais eletrônicas para o duo.
A música atualmente está entre as mais ouvidas do álbum, o que despertou a atenção das artistas para levarem a mensagem adiante com um apelo visual e imersivo no tema. Vale ressaltar que a faixa em questão foi totalmente produzida pelo trio, mixada pela própria Kimberly Neves e masterizada pela engenheira de masterização Piper Payne, do estúdio Infrasonic Mastering, de Oakland, Califórnia.
"Alma em Chamas" (na tradução para o português) fala sobre a dificuldade em superar um trauma e a luta para seguir em frente, mesmo quando há uma libertação. O intuito do trio é trazer conscientização sobre o tema e dar voz a milhares de mulheres que sofrem, ou já sofreram, qualquer tipo de abuso, seja físico ou verbal.
"O que queremos trazer à tona é como o tema está presente no dia-a-dia de todas as mulheres, desde a nossa fase de crescimento até a vida adulta. Infelizmente, como mulheres, pelo menos em algum estágio das nossas vidas já experienciamos algum tipo de abuso ou opressão. Em algum momento já nos sentimos invadidas, desrespeitadas e abusadas, muitas vezes por conta da normalidade imposta pela sociedade machista que acaba nos fazendo acreditar que não temos direito a um amparo", desabafa narrow-j.
Em um período delicado em que todos estamos vivendo devido à pandemia, o momento se torna ainda mais propício para a abordagem do tema, já que se pode observar uma alta de 46% no feminicídio durante a quarentena (dado do Fórum Brasileiro de Segurança Pública).
Com montagem e finalização de Moises Oliveira (diretor com experiência internacional, vencedor de 9 prêmios por trabalhos para a Comissão Interamericana de Direitos Humanos, em Washington, DC) o clipe de “Soul on Fire”, sem dúvidas, vem somado a um time de grande peso e promete deixar um legado importante na carreira das artistas.
