English to Turkish: Augustine And His Followers General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Folklore
Source text - English AUGUSTINE AND HIS FOLLOWERS WERE NOT
the only missionaries at work converting the pagans of
Anglo-Saxon England in the years around AD 600. For
nearly half a century, Celtic monks from the island of Iona
off the shore of western Scotland had been traveling around,
preaching Christianity to the inhabitants of northern
England. Their teachings were inspired by the kidnapped
St Patrick (see p. 33), who, after escaping from slavery in
Ireland, could not rid himself of the ‘cry of unbaptized children’.
He had returned to convert his Irish captors – and,
according to legend, had also rid Ireland of snakes in the
process.
Translation - Turkish AUGUSTINUS VE ONUN TAKİPÇİLERİ ASLINDA
English to Latin: We Are The Same General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Source text - English WE'RE THE SAME
There's only one circle
But there are many wheels
There's only one hunger but
Each day has three meals
There's only one story
It goes round the wheel of glory
It begins when you're dying
And ends with what you love
We're the same we're the same
We're exactly all the same
It's easiest to see when we're
in space or we're in pain
The earlier you feel it
The less you have to bear
The wheel must be broken
Together we repair
Translation - Latin EIDEM SUMUS
Est unicus orbis
Sed multae rotae
Est una esuritio at
Quotidie ter cenae
Est narratio sola
Quod circumsit rota fortuna
Incipit cum morituris
Finit cum deinde amas
Idem sumus, idem sumus
Nos toti ipsi idem sumus
Facillissime videre ubi
In caelo aut dolore sumus
Quando prior id senties
Minor ferre fuisses
Rota debet demolior
Simul nobis restituor
