Bio
Having studied Spanish for 12 years and having
received my Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and Spanish Language and
Literature from Stony Brook University, I have years of experience with
Spanish-language literature and in-depth knowledge of the grammatical
and linguistic conventions of the language. I have also been studying
Italian for eight years and Brazilian Portuguese (self-taught) for
approximately seven years. During my time at the University of
Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s master’s program in Translation and
Interpreting Studies, I had the opportunity to practice translating
documents from Spanish, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese into English
in a wide range of fields, including literature, ecology, law, and
medicine. This practice translating a diverse range of documents,
combined with the theoretical training I received in the program,
provided me with a strong foundation to create culturally sensitive,
genre-targeted translations in a professional context.
I have
also translated professionally from both Spanish to English and English
to Spanish for researchers at the University of Illinois
Urbana-Champaign. In one project, I post-edited a machine translation
of a survey form and translated participant responses from Spanish to
English. I also translated and transcribed Spanish-language interviews
into English. My other professional experiences involved translating
consent language for social science research studies from English into
Spanish. I have also volunteered with Urbana-Champaign Reproductive
Justice, translating a brief flyer, as well as the organization’s main
webpage, from English to Spanish. When translating, I take great care
to ensure that the final product is thoroughly researched, culturally
sensitive, and linguistically accurate. I balance foreignization and
domestication to create translations that are relatable to the receiving
(target) audience while still retaining fidelity to the source text.
I provide culturally sensitive, thoroughly researched Spanish-English and English-Spanish translations, MT post-editing, and editing and proofreading. I also offer transcription in both English and Spanish.
