Source text - Swahili Africa is one of the continent with abundant resources, but despite having lots of resources, Africa is still considered a continent in the 3rd world economy. One of the major reason that makes Africa fail to grow economically is the lack of a unified market.
When you look at the nations with large economies in the world, all share a characteristic of having a large consumer market. When you look at China And America both have a consumer market of a billion people. Even India that is growing at a fast pace economically, has a consumer market of a billion people. Having a large local consumer market helps the government, businesses and industries to strengthen and amass profits even before taping into foreign investments.
Companies from China & USA can attain grand success in their local markets compared to African countries.
For example, a Tanzanian business that penetrates and reaches 20% of the Tanzanian population, it will have approximately 15 million consumers, but a chinese company that succeeds to penetrate 20% of the China's population will have approximately 200 million consumers.
This is a challenge that stunts the economies of African nations. We lack a unified broad market, even though Africa has a population of not less than 1.3 billion people per statistics of 2022.
One of the reason, that makes Africa to not posses a unified market is the boundaries between our nations. Africa has 57 independent countries and each country has its own distinctive administration, constitution, policies and currency. A company from Tanzania that ventures to Kenya to open up business, is considered a foreign investor in Kenya. This outlook and boundaries between our African countries is what pulls us backwards, even though foreign countries see the African opportunity as a single market. Our outlook needs to change and unite our markets, if we wish to rise from the 3rd world economy.
Translation - Swahili Africa, ni moja ya bara lenye rasilimali nyingi, licha ya kuwa na rasilimali nyingi Africa bado inatambulika kama bara lenye uchumi wa tatu. Moja ya sababu kubwa inayoifanya Africa ishindwe kukuwa kiuchumi ni kukosa muunganiko wa soko.
Ukitizama mataifa yenye uchumi mkubwa duniani yote yanasifa ya kuwa na soko kubwa la watumiaji. Ukitizama China na Marekani zote zina soko linalozidi watu billioni moja, hata India inayokuwa kwa kasi kubwa kiuchumi inasoko linalozidi watumiaji bilioni moja. Kuwa na soko kubwa la ndani linasaidia serikali, biashara na viwanda kuweza kuimarika na kupata faida kubwa hata kabla ya kufikiria uwekezaji wa nje. Makampuni ya China na Marekani yanaweza kupata mafanikio makubwa ndani ya masoko yao ukilinganisha na makampuni ya Africa.
Kwa mfano, Biashara ya Tanzania ikiweza kupenya na kufikia asilimia 20% ya idadi ya watu wa Tanzania, itakuwa na watumiaji takribani milioni 15, lakini kampuni ya China ikiweza kupenya na kufikia asilimia 20% ya idadi ya watu wa China itakuwa na watumiaji takribani millioni 200.
Hii ni changamoto inayodumaza uchumi wa mataifa ya Africa. Hatuna soko pana, licha ya Africa kuwa na idadi ya watu wasiopungua billioni 1.3 kwa takwimu za 2020.

I embarked on my translation journey in 2017, while i was pursuing my bachelors degree at University of Jinan, in Shandong province, China. I had an opportunity to work as an intern at Makeronly.com, an e-commerce platform that connects chinese manufacturers to foreign markets.
