Background: The immunotherapeutic vaccine Interferon-kinoid (IFN-K) consists of a heterocomplex of inactivated recombinant human IFN-2b coupled to a T-helper carrier protein, Keyhole Limpet Haemocyanin. A phase 1/ll was published. Here, we report the results of a 36 week, phase 2b, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multi-center study assessing the efficacy and safety of IFN-K in patients with active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) on standard of care therapy.

Antecedentes: la vacuna inmunoterapéutica Interferón-kinoid (IFN-K) está compuesta por un heterocomplejo de IFN-2b recombinante humano inactivado y acoplado a una proteína transportadora de linfocitos T colaboradores, la hemocianina de lapa californiana. Se publicó un ensayo de fase I/II, en el cual demostramos los resultados de un estudio en fase 2b, aleatorizado, controlado con placebo, con doble enmascaramiento, multicéntrico, de 36 semanas de duración, y en el que se evalúa la eficacia y seguridad del IFN-K en pacientes con lupus eritematoso sistémico activo (LES) con tratamiento de preferencia.
