1. Windows Users
1.1. Downloading the software
Do you have Java 8 JRE?
• Yes: download the following file: OmegaT_4.n.n_Windows_without_JRE.exe.
• No / I don't know: download the following file: OmegaT_4.n.n_Windows.exe.
1.2. Installing OmegaT
To install OmegaT, double-click on the program you have downloaded. At the beginning of the installation you can select the language to be used during the installation. In the following window you can indicate that the language selected is to be used in OmegaT. Later, after you have accepted the license agreement, the setup program asks you whether you wish to create a folder in the Start menu, and whether you wish to create a shortcut on the desktop and in the quick launch bar - you can create these shortcuts later. The last window offers you to have a look at the readme and changes files for the version you have installed.
1.3. Upgrading OmegaT
If you already have a version of OmegaT installed on your PC and wish to upgrade to a more recent version, you have two options:
• Install over the existing installation.
• Install to a new folder.
2. macOS Users
2.1. Downloading and installing OmegaT
OmegaT contains the Java JRE 1.8
You need to download the OmegaT_4.n.n_Mac.zip file.
To install OmegaT, double-click on the program you have downloaded. This creates a folder called OmegaT. The folder contains 2 files: index.html and OmegaT.app. Copy the folder to your Applications folder. Once you have done this, you can delete the OmegaT_4.n.n_Mac.zip file, it is no longer needed.
2.2. Adding OmegaT to the Dock
Drag and drop OmegaT.app onto the Dock.
2.3. Upgrading OmegaT
If you already have a version of OmegaT installed on your PC and wish to upgrade to a more recent version, you have two options:
• Install over the existing installation.
• Install to a new folder.
3. Reuse Translation Memories
Initially, that is when the project is created, the main TM of the project (project_save.tmx) is empty. This TM gradually becomes filled during the translation. To speed up this process, existing translations can be reused. If a given sentence has already been translated once, and translated correctly, there is no need for it to be retranslated. Translation memories may also contain reference translations: multinational legislation, such as that of the European Community, is a typical example.
When you create the target documents in an OmegaT project, the translation memory of the project is output in the form of three files in your OmegaT project folder. You can regard these three tmx files (-omegat.tmx, -level1.tmx and -level2.tmx) as an export of your current project's content in bilingual form.
Should you wish to reuse a translation memory from a previous project (for example because the new project is similar to the previous project, or uses terminology which might have been used before), you can use these translation memories for import into your new project. In this case, place the translation memories you wish to use in the /tm or /tm/auto folder of your new project: in the former case you will get hits from these translation memories in the fuzzy matches viewer, and in the latter case these TMs will be used to pre-translate your source text.
4. Creating a translation memory for selected documents
In case translators need to share their TMX bases while excluding some of their parts or including just translations of certain files, sharing the complete ProjectName-omegat.tmx is out of question. The following recipe is just one of the possibilities, but simple enough to follow and without any dangers for the assets.
• Create a project, separate for other projects, in the desired language pair, with an appropriate name - note that the TMXs created will include this name.
• Copy the documents, you need the translation memory for, into the source folder of the project.
• Copy the translation memories, containing the translations of the documents above, into tm/auto subfolder of the new project.
• Start the project. Check for possible Tag errors with Ctrl+T and untranslated segments with Ctrl+U. To check everything is as expected, you may press Ctrl+D to create the target documents and check their contents.
• When you exit the project, the TMX files in the main project folder (see above) now contain the translations in the selected language pair, for the files, you have copied into the source folder. Copy them to a safe place for future referrals.
• To avoid reusing the project and thus possibly polluting future cases, delete the project folder or archive it away from your workplace.

3. Reutilización de las memorias de traducción
Cuando se crea el proyecto, la MT principal (project_save.tmx) está vacía y se va llenando poco a poco durante la traducción. A fin de agilizar este proceso, las traducciones existentes pueden reutilizarse. Si una oración se tradujo correctamente la primera vez, no es necesario retraducirla. Las memorias de traducción también pueden incluir traducciones de referencia: un ejemplo clásico es la legislación multinacional, como la de la Comunidad Europea.
Cuando crea los documentos de destino en un proyecto de OmegaT, la memoria de traducción se genera en forma de tres archivos tmx de la carpeta del proyecto (-omegat.tmx, -level1.tmx y -level2.tmx), que puede interpretarlos como una exportación del contenido de su proyecto en formato bilingüe.

• Copie los documentos que necesita para la memoria de traducción en la carpeta de origen del proyecto.
• Copie las memorias de traducción que contienen las traducciones de los documentos anteriores en la subcarpeta tm/auto del proyecto nuevo.
• Inicie el proyecto. Utilice «Ctrl + T» para verificar que no haya errores en las etiquetas y «Ctrl + U» para comprobar que no haya segmentos sin traducir. Si desea corroborar que todo es como lo esperaba, presione «Ctrl + D» para generar los documentos de destino y revisar su contenido.

‘What’s this?’
Suddenly the carpet jumps! It moves and flies off into the air.
‘Hey! What’s happening?’
A loud booming voice comes from the carpet.
‘Welcome, O master. I am a magic carpet.’
Ali jumps onto the carpet and off they fly.
First, they fly high up into the sky and then they land in a jungle. It is hot and wet and it’s raining.
‘It’s raining! Yuck!’
Then they fly to the desert. It is very, very hot and dry.
‘It is very, very hot today!’
After that, they fly to the South Pole. There is lots of ice and snow. It’s freezing.
‘Brrr!’ ‘Where are we now? I can’t see!’
‘In the mountains. Can you see me?’
‘It’s very foggy.’
Then they fly to a forest. It’s very windy there.
‘Oh, it’s windy in the forest!’
Then they fly to an island in the sea. There is thunder and lightning.
‘Aaagh! Let’s go home!’
‘What a storm!’
Finally, they fly back home. The carpet lands in the shop and Ali gets off.

The Cathedral has stood for over 900 years as a Christian presence in the heart of Norfolk. It is a place of public worship and private prayer, of hospitality and education. You have entered the Cathedral through our new Visitor and Education Centre (opened in 2009). It is built on the foundations of the mediaeval building where guests would have been welcomed into the Benedictine monastery which then served the Cathedral. As you progress through the Visitor and Education Centre you will pass an exhibition hall, where monks were permitted to speak to visitors from outside. Here you can find a recommended tour during your visit to the Norwich Cathedral:
1. Begin your tour at the WEST DOORS. From here the vast length and soaring height of the cathedral may be seen.
2. Above you, in the NAVE VAULT, are the carved and painted roof bosses showing events from the Old and New Testaments.
3. The NAVE is setting for great services and the normal Sunday Eucharist. There are eight altars in the cathedral, each of them used in turn for Holy Communion throughout the week.
4. The PULPITUM SCREEN divides the building into two parts: the Nave, open to everyone, and the Choir, reserved in earlier days for the Benedictine monks who were responsible for the life and worship of the cathedral.
5. The CHOIR, where the monks gathered seven times a day for worship, is now used twice a day by the clergy, choir, and laypeople for Morning and Evening prayer.
