English to Mongolian: Safety Improvement of elimination of the critical risk in the field Detailed field: Mining & Minerals / Gems
Source text - English Improvement Title: Elimination of the Critical Risk of Fall from Height – Shaft Rock Hoist
Before the Improvement: During rope change-out and rope sample cutting activities for laboratory analysis on the Shaft 1 Rock Hoist, there is a requirement to move the slack rope switch away from the rope. To perform this task, electricians were required to use an elevated work platform (EWP) to access the switch cable at height and disconnect it from the rope.
This exposed personnel to the critical risk of fall from height. In addition, the requirement for working-at-height permits, pre-job preparation, and equipment mobilization increased task complexity and negatively impacted work efficiency.
After the Improvement: An extension lead was installed from the sensor cable and routed down the wall to ground level. This modification allows electricians to pull the cable from ground level and safely move the switch cable away from the rope without accessing the area at height.
As a result, the preparation time required for rope change-out and rope cutting activities has been significantly reduced, and the need to use an elevated work platform has been eliminated. This engineering solution has fully eliminated the critical fall-from-height risk, while improving both safety performance and operational efficiency.
What are the learnings for others?
→ Seek and implement opportunities to eliminate working at height requirements for routine tasks through engineering and safety-based solutions.
How has this reduced our people and business risks?
→This improvement eliminated the need for personnel to work at height using an Elevated Work Platform (EWP), thereby removing the critical risk of falls from height through engineering controls. As a result, safety of electricians has been enhanced, and the requirements for working at height permits, supervision, and protective measures have been significantly reduced.
→ In addition, enabling the preparation work for rope change-out and rope cutting activities to be performed directly from ground level has significantly reduced task duration. This has improved productivity during major shutdowns and contributed to reducing equipment downtime.
I am an English–Mongolian translator with over 20 years of experience in technical translation, proofreading, and document review. Most of my work has been in the mining industry, where I have translated and reviewed maintenance manuals, HSE documents, work instructions, training materials, procedures, and other technical documents. I also have experience translating educational materials and general content. My goal is to produce clear, accurate, and natural translations while keeping the meaning and technical terms consistent. My services include: • English–Mongolian translation • Technical translation • Proofreading and editing • Localization • HSE documentation • Maintenance manuals • Training materials I value accuracy, clear communication, and on-time delivery. I enjoy working with both technical and general translation projects and always do my best to provide reliable, high-quality work.
