Toutes les interventions dans des lieux où l’aération est insuffisante et peut laisser craindre les risques ci-dessus. Ces lieux peuvent être enterrés ou non. Exemples : fosses, regards, collecteurs, puits, réseaux visitables, bassins profonds, chambres de dessablement, postes de relèvement, postes de dégrillage, cuves, chambres de vannes, postes de chloration et d’ozonation, locaux de traitement et de stockage des boues et locaux où sont stockés des produits dangereux.

Protections collectives : identification des ouvrages présentant des risques d’atmosphère confinée, signalisation, trépied ou potence, anti-chute normal ou à récupération, garde-corps, barrière amovible, système de détection fixe avec alarme, aération naturelle ou mécanique, treuil, points d’ancrage, éclairage fixe anti-déflagrant.
Protections individuelles obligatoires : gants, lunettes enveloppantes, casque, chaussures ou bottes de sécurité, contrôleur d’atmosphère, masque auto sauveteur ou appareil respiratoire isolant (A.R.I.), éclairage portatif anti-déflagrant, moyen de communication anti-déflagrant (radio, …), harnais, combinaison fluorescente étanche aux produits chimiques, gilet de sauvetage, protection auditive.
RÈGLES À RESPECTER
RÈGLES GÉNÉRALES :
1. N’intervenir dans un local identifié à risques d’atmosphère confinée qu’après accord direct obligatoire du supérieur hiérarchique.
2. Intervenir à deux opérateurs minimum dont un à l’extérieur.
3. Il est strictement INTERDIT de fumer dans l’ouvrage et dans son périmètre immédiat.
4. Porter les E.P.I. adéquats.
5. Baliser la zone d’intervention (cf. consigne « Signalisation / balisage») et protéger les ouvertures (barrières, caillebotis provisoire,…).
6. En cas de travail par point chaud (soudure, découpe, meulage), veiller scrupuleusement à établir un permis de feu.
7. Ne jamais utiliser un téléphone mobile dans et à proximité immédiate de l’ouvrage.

All maintenance in locations with insufficient ventilation and that could be susceptible to the above-mentioned risks. These locations could be above or below ground. For example: pits, inspection chambers, sumps, wells, accessible mains, deep ponds, precipitation chambers, head works, filtering plant, cisterns, sluice rooms, chlorination and ozone treatment plant, sludge storage and treatment areas and locations where dangerous substances are stored.
NB. Hazards can be found on some open-air sites too (settling and decanting ponds, sludge silos,) and in drinking water tanks; each case must be evaluated independently.
PREVENTIVE MEASURES
Collective Protection: Identification of works presenting hazards of confined atmosphere, signage, support or bracing, normal fall-protection and recovery equipment, life-lines and guard rails, fixed barriers, fixed detector and alarm system, natural or mechanical ventilation, winch, anchorage points, fixed, explosion-proof lighting.
Compulsory Personal Protection: gloves, goggles, helmet, safety boots or shoes, air check kit, automatic safety mask or sealed breathing apparatus, portable explosion-proof lighting, explosion-proof communication system (radio …), harness, fluorescent chemical-proof suit, life jacket, hearing protection.

RULES TO BE OBEYED
GENERAL RULES
1. Do not carry out maintenance in an area known to be subject to confined atmosphere hazards except with the direct and mandatory agreement of the line manager.
2. Maintenance should be carried out with a minimum of two operatives, one of whom should be outside.
3. It is strictly FORBIDDEN to smoke in the facility and in its immediate surroundings.
4. Suitable (PPE) should be worn or carried.
5. Mark out the maintenance site (See “Signage/marking”) and protect openings (barriers, temporary grating ...).
6. In the event of work using a heat source (soldering, cutting, grinding), scrupulously ensure that a fire permit is obtained.
7. Never use a mobile phone in the immediate proximity of the facility.
