Bio
Though technically not a native speaker of English, I have spoken this language since my early childhood, earned a BA in English as a young man and spent most of my adult life in the United States. I am a much more proficient - and prolific - writer in English than I have ever been, or hoped to be, in my native Russian. My preferred and most common MO is Russian and (increasingly) Ukrainian and French into English. Going against the book (whoever it was who wrote it), I am in a unique position to offer intimate understanding of the source language that only a native may have combined with well-rounded, rich and idiomatic presentation of an accomplished fiction writer. I am particularly good at dressing up poorly written Russian texts to make them more palatable for native speakers of English.
The bulk of my translating/interpreting experience lies in the areas of law, business, finance, securities and investment management. I am particularly comfortable with civil and commercial law documents, such as contracts, court submissions and documents produced on discovery in commercial litigation, various Russian laws, regulations and court decisions, etc. Over the years, I have also developed a niche subspecialty in international arbitration. Coincidentally, I hold an MBA in Finance and Investment Management from a reputable school in the US.
On numerous occasions, I have provided consecutive Russian to English and English to Russian interpretation during high level meetings at a variety of US government organizations, such as US Dept of the Interior, World Bank, TIAA-CREF, Association of American Railroads and The College of Insurance in NYC to name just a few and at a number of functions sponsored by major US and international banks. I have also interpreted at numerous depositions, immigration hearings and other similar proceedings in NYC.
I do not do technical translations that require specific expertise in the fields of science, engineering or medicine. I may, at my own discretion, use a CAT tool of my choice where appropriate but I do not offer any repetition discounts.
I pride myself on being punctual, and I have never - not ever - failed to meet a delivery deadline I have committed to. As a highly skilled professional, I expect to be paid accordingly. I will not compete on price alone as a matter of policy. My average daily productivity is about 3K words for Russian, French or Ukrainian into English and a bit less for English into Russian.
I value my privacy and have thus chosen not to upload my full resume. However, it is readily available upon request.
