Source text - English Eroticism has this in common with an addictive drug: that there is a coercive element to its pleasure with which part of us is in complicity, and part not. Thus ever since time began men have been trying to enjoy eroticism without being destroyed by it. Societies, religions can be defined in the way they deal with this conundrum. Polygamy, monogamy with repression, monogamy with affairs, monogamy with prostitutes, serial monogamy. Not to mention individual solutions of great ingenuity, or desperation: Victor Hugo with the door knocked through the wall of his office, to let in a girl each afternoon. Auden's flair for finding call-boys in every town. Picasso who simply refused when wife and mistress demanded he choose between them. Then there is always the hair-shirt of course. But perhaps the thing to remember when you wake up with a life full of fresh paint and tortuous complications is that eroticism wasn't invented for you, nor merely for the survival of the species perhaps, but for a divinity's entertainment. Nothing generates so many opportunities for titillation and schadenfreude as eroticism. Which is why it lies at the centre of so much narrative. How the gods thronged the balconies of heaven to see the consequences of Helen's betrayal! And your friends are watching too. Your antics have put the shine on many a late-night conversation.
On the borders between mythology and history, that wily survivor Odysseus was the first who learnt to trick the gods. And perhaps his smartest trick of all was that of lashing himself to the mast before the Sirens came in earshot. There are those of course who are happy to stand at the railings, even scan the horizon. Otherwise, choose your mast, find the ropes that suit you: sport, workaholism, celibacy with prayerbook and bell... But the kindest and toughest ropes of all are probably to be found in some suburban semi-detached with rowdy children and a woman who never allows the dust to settle for too long.
A bolondozásaid beragyogtak jó egynéhány késő esti társalgást.

Translation - Portuguese (EU) Um estudo extremamente interessante do projeto Theratalk da Universidade de Göttingen pasma muitas pessoas. Porém, a avaliação do projeto indica exatamente o contrario.

Source text - English When she moved into his tiny house in Stroud, and took charge of his four small children, Mother was thirty and still quite handsome. She had not, I suppose, met anyone like him before. This rather priggish young man, with his devout gentility, his airs and manners, his music and ambitions, his charm, bright talk, and undeniable good looks, overwhelmed her as soon as she saw him. So she fell in love with him immediately, and remained in love for ever. And herself being comely, sensitive, and adoring, she attracted my father also. And so he married her. And so later he left her - with his children and some more of her own.
When he'd gone, she brought us to the village and waited. She waited for thirty years. I don't think she ever knew what had made him desert her, though the reasons seemed clear enough. She was too honest, too natural for this frightened man; too remote from his tidy laws. She was, after all, a country girl; disordered, hysterical, loving. She was muddled and mischievous as a chimney-jackdaw, she made her nest of rags and jewels, was happy in the sunlight, squawked loudly at danger, pried and was insatiably curious, forgot when to eat or ate all day, and sang when sunsets were red. She lived by the easy laws of the hedgerow, loved the world, and made no plans, had a quick holy eye for natural wonders and couldn't have kept a neat house for her life. What my father wished for was something quite different, something she could never give him - the protective order of an unimpeachable suburbia, which was what he got in the end.
The three or four years Mother spent with my father she fed on for the rest of her life. Her happiness at that time was something she guarded as though it must ensure his eventual return. She would talk about it almost in awe, not that it had ceased but that it had happened at all.
subjugou-a à primeira vista.

A szeptemberi bágyadt búcsuzónál
Szeme színére visszarévedek.
Milyen volt hangja selyme, sem tudom már,
De tavaszodván, ha sóhajt a rét,
Úgy érzem, Anna meleg szava szól át
Egy tavaszból, mely messze, mint az ég
Translation - English What shade of flaxen was her hair, I don't recall
But I do know the fields are gold at harvest time
When corn is ripe from summer's sun before the fall
When I can feel the blondness of her hair again
What shade of blue her eyes, I don't remember
But when time has come for faint goodbyes
Under the wide open skies of September
I seem to see the color of her eyes
What shade her silken voice, I had forgotten
But when spring grass starts to come alive
I can sense Anna's soft words all too often
Warm as distant springtime in the sky.

ment a padlásra, ment serényen.
Én még őszinte ember voltam,
ordítottam, toporzékoltam.
Hagyja a dagadt ruhát másra.
Engem vigyen föl a padlásra.
Csak ment és teregetett némán,
nem szidott, nem is nézett énrám
s a ruhák fényesen, suhogva,
keringtek, szálltak a magosba.
Nem nyafognék, de most már késő,
most látom, milyen óriás ő -
szürke haja lebben az égen,
kékítőt old az ég vizében
Translation - English All week long now, Mom's been in my thoughts
in all my waking hours, walkabouts
as up the attic staircase she climbs
with her creaky basket made of twines.
I was then still an earnest fellow
as I cried and screamed in the cellar
-Why won't she leave the swollen laundry
and take me up instead, and hurry!
She silently went on hanging clothes
she never scorned me, nor turned morose
through the air the wet laundry would fly
shining, drawing circles in the sky.
I wouldn't whine now, it's far too late
but just now I realize how great
she was, grey hair floating in the breeze
washing clothes in heaven's sky-blue seas

Rossz vagy, vagy jó vagy?
Nem születtem én kitalálónak
S nem is születtem rossznak vagy jónak,
De kedves, gyûlölt
Hiábavalónak.
Akarsz maradni?
Én, jaj -jaj, hisz alig tudok adni,
Igérni tudok és megfogadni,
De beváltani?
Inkább elszaladni.
Téged szeretlek,
Hogy Te szeretsz, nem is olyan fontos:
Két ember s mind a kettõ bolondos.
Mi lesz velünk, majd eldönti talán
A Sors, e bölcs, gondos.
Translation - English FATE SHALL DECIDE
Are you bad, or good?
I wasn’t born to guess either way
Nor to be bad or good, what can I say
Just a gracious, loathed
Useless stray.
Care to stay?
Poor me, can’t well afford to pay.
To promise, to pledge I may
But to play?
I’d rather run away.
You, I love,
Love me or not, I really don’t care
We’re two people with a foolish flare.
What will happen to us, perhaps
The wise, caring Fate will tell.
