Source text - English I remember reading once that some fellows use language to conceal thought, but it's been my experience that a good many more use it instead of thought.
A businessman's conversation should be regulated by fewer and simpler rules than any other function of the human animal. They are:
Have something to say.
Say it.
Stop talking.
Beginning before you know what you want to say and keeping on after you have said it lands a merchant in a lawsuit or the poorhouse, and the first is a short cut to the second. I maintain a legal department here, and it costs a lot of money, but it's to keep me from going to law.
It's all right when you are calling on a girl or talking with friends after dinner to run a conversation like a Sunday-school excursion, with stops to pick flowers; but in the office your sentences should be the shortest distance possible between periods. Cut out the introduction and the peroration, and stop before you get to secondly. You've got to preach short sermons to catch sinners; and deacons won't believe they need long ones themselves. Give fools the first and women the last word. The meat's always in the middle of the sandwich. Of course, a light butter on either side of it doesn't do any harm if it's intended for a man who likes butter.
Remember, too, that it's easier to look wise than to talk wisdom. Say less than the other fellow and listen more than you talk; for when a man's listening he isn't telling on himself and he's flattering the fellow who is. Give most men a good listener and most women enough note-paper and they'll tell all they know. Money talks -- but not unless its owner has a loose tongue, and then its remarks are always offensive. Poverty talks, too, but nobody wants to hear what it has to say.

Breeding to the Limit
Ikeda: It is generally accepted that birth control in the developing countries, which are largely responsible for the modern population explosion, is an important step in resolving the difficulty. However, there are obstacles in the path of its realization. For instance, there is the moral issue. Many people, especially those who regard children as so-called gifts of God, feel that it is immoral to destroy prenatal human life artificially. As a religious man, I am deeply conscious of the paramount, irreplaceable value of human life; I deeply believe that all human actions must be based on an awareness of the greatness of life. On the other hand, birth control --the lessening to some extent of the possibility of giving birth--is by no means trampling on the dignity of life. On the contrary, if such measures can alleviate the chronic starvation of the developing nations, they are a practical way to demonstrate even greater respect for life. As long as it effectively promotes the continued survival and expansion of mankind, birth control deserves our support.
TOYNBEE: Recently the advance of science has affected the problem of human sexual relations in two ways. Science has reduced the rate of premature deaths--especially deaths in infancy and women's deaths in childbirth--and has increased the average length of life. This has been happening not only in the developed countries but in the developing countries too. In addition, science has discovered means that are effective and apparently physically harmless for women to have sexual intercourse without incurring the natural liability of becoming pregnant.
The first of the two effects of science has been to cause a population explosion. The death rate can be reduced quickly and easily by public-health measures, but reduction in the birthrate requires voluntary action by individuals. This, in turn, requires not only a knowledge of, and access to, new scientific means of avoiding pregnancy but also a break with mankind's traditional habit of breeding to the limit. Consequently, the adoption of birth control to offset the already achieved reduction in the death rate is slowest in the developing countries. The peoples of these countries are both the largest and the poorest part of mankind.
The impulse to breed to the limit has, no doubt, been implanted by nature in man, as in all the nonhuman species of living beings, as a device (this purposive language is, of course, not to be taken literally) for ensuring the survival of the species. In man, this natural impulse has been rationalized by being translated into religious sanctions. It has been believed that a man must make sure of leaving behind him male descendants to perform rites that are held to be necessary for the welfare of the dead man's spirit; or, as in the doctrine of the Judaic religions, man has been commanded by God to "be fruitful and multiply and replenish the Earth and subdue it." (Chapter 1, verse 28, of the Book of Genesis in the Jewish Torah, which Christians call The Old Testament.)

Commitment to Continuous Improvement
To exist is to understand the here and now; to grow and prosper requires a commitment to learning. While a fundamental tenet of the quality movement since W. Edwards Deming, the renowned quality management consultant, continuous improvement is much harder to do than to say. The human mind is designed to establish patterns that cause success, and once we find a success path it is hard to change. We simply do not like change of any kind. It is only the few who actually experience the value of change who understand this concept.
The willingness to change is a lesser force than the need to maintain status quo. I saw this in action when I helped conduct a review of a corporate safety audit at one of our client’s plants. We were trying to find the causes of a significant breakdown in the safety program. Along the way we found many causes, but as the review continued, I began to notice increasing evidence of a failure to learn from mistakes. In fact, I noticed a total lack of respect for learning. This facility had a proud history of being Number One in the Corporation when it came to safety. Having succeeded, they came to believe they had a formula for success and could ride on that formula forever.

La aspiración consciente a la superación continua
Existir es comprender el aquí y ahora; para crecer y prosperar hace falta el compromiso de aprender. Aunque la «superación continua» es un principio fundamental del movimiento de la calidad total desde los tiempos de W. Edwards Deming, el famoso consultor especializado en este tipo de gestión, hay que reconocer que aspirar a la superación continua es algo mucho más fácil de decir que de lograr. La mente humana está diseñada para establecer patrones que conducen al éxito; cuando se implementa un camino exitoso, es muy difícil de cambiar. No nos gusta el cambio, de ninguna clase. Los únicos que entienden este concepto son los pocos que experimentan empíricamente el valor del cambio.
La disposición a cambiar es una fuerza de magnitud inferior a la necesidad de mantener el statu quo. Lo he comprobado cuando fui convocado para supervisar una auditoría de seguridad efectuada en una de las fábricas de un cliente. Tratábamos de encontrar las causas de un importante fallo en el programa de seguridad. A lo largo del proceso fuimos encontrando muchas causas, pero a medida que esta revisión se extendía en el tiempo, también encontré pruebas cada vez más contundentes de que existía una gran incapacidad de aprender de los errores. A decir verdad, noté una total falta de respeto al aprendizaje. Esta planta se enorgullecía de tener el mejor registro histórico de toda la corporación; era el establecimiento número uno en materia de seguridad. What is there to be known about my career that you may find interesting?
To begin with, in the course of more than 25 years in the profession, I have been fortunate to build up a solid, long-lasting, and rewarding network of clients and colleagues. I have a long and fruitful experience tutoring translators, editorial and press staff. Many of my former students are now active and successful translators in different parts of the world. I am a doctoral candidate in Translation Studies at Universitat Jaume I in Castellón, Spain, and I have earned a Interuniversitary Master in Research in Translation and Interpretation Studies by Universitat Jaume I-Universitat de Valencia. I have also majored in Psychology (Universidad de Buenos Aires) and have additional postgraduate studies in Education (FLACSO), Contemporary Philosophy (UNMP), as well as complementary formal language studies (French and Japanese). Besides my steadfast activity as an English-Spanish translator, some of my translations from French, Italian and Portuguese have been published in Spain and Argentina.
Movies and reading are the closest to a hobby in a very busy daily life, where a big family and volunteering work also constitute a source of pride and joy.
