Source text - English Soldiers' homes were small for two reasons. First, most of the time was spent outdoors working, cooking, playing and sleeping. The home was primarily used for storage of belongings and, in bad weather, sleeping.
The second reason homes were small was that it was a lot of work to construct the home with adobe bricks. Why build any bigger than necessary?
