Based in Paris since late 2006, I specialise in the translation of marketing texts and advertising copy, as well as documents emanating from the NGO sector. I also provide English voice-overs for corporate videos and advertising campaigns.
For my degree in Modern Languages (French and German), I specialised in literary studies and translation, obtaining First Class Honours. As a postgraduate at University College London, I studied French literature (the works of Louis-Ferdinand Céline).
My seven years with Amnesty International, where I worked in a bilingual French and English environment as a researcher and campaigner on Africa, have afforded me specialist knowledge of the NGO sector and of professional lobbying in the human rights and humanitarian spheres. I also have a firm grounding in the principles and terminology of international law.
I authored a total of seven public reports for Amnesty on subjects ranging from child soldiers to torture, in addition to numerous press releases and other written materials. This greatly developed my professional writing skills in English, as well as my editing and proofreading abilities. I also designed storyboards and oversaw the subtitling for campaigning videos.
I currently teach English to the staff of publishing houses based in Paris in conjunction with my translation work.
My principal strength as a translator is my ability to produce idiomatic translations. I believe that for a translation to qualify as good, it needs not only to remain faithful to the original text but also has to read fluently and naturally in the target language.
