LIVALO is a fully synthetic and highly potent statin engineered in Japan. LIVALO differs from other, currently available statins in the U.S. in that it has a unique cyclopropyl group on the base structure. This cyclopropyl group contributes to a more effective inhibition of the HMG-CoA reductase enzyme to inhibit cholesterol production, and potentially affords greater low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) clearance and reduction of plasma cholesterol.
In pivotal Phase III trials, LIVALO effectively reduced LDL-C and improved other parameters of lipid metabolism. The overall safety and tolerability of LIVALO are consistent with other commonly prescribed statins.
"LIVALO has a robust safety, efficacy and tolerability profile and offers an attractive alternative for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia or combined dyslipidemia," said Antonio M. Gotto Jr., M.D., D.Phil, the Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Dean of Weill Medical College of Cornell University, New York. "LIVALO has very positive attributes that will help continue to fill current unmet needs in the statin market for clinically complex patient populations, such as the elderly, patients with diabetes or patients who take multiple medications for co-morbid conditions."
LIVALO is expected to launch in the U.S. during Q1 of 2010 and will be available in 3 low dosages (1 mg, 2 mg and 4 mg). After a thorough review of the statin market, KPA is also seeking a co-promotion partner in order to broaden the reach of KPA's rapidly growing internal sales force. Partnering with another organization to expand the sales efforts for this product is aligned with KPA's long-term vision to become a leader in the cardio metabolic therapeutic arena.
Since its launch in Japan, South Korea, Thailand and China, LIVALO has been successfully used in these countries to treat primary hypercholesterolemia and combined dyslipidemia, and has accumulated millions of patient-years of exposure. Source text - English Manufacturing is the process of converting raw materials, components, or parts into finished goods.
Manufacturing commonly employs a man-machine setup with division of labour in a large scale production. It includes several techniques such as the technique of using high pressure (HP) or ultra-high pressure (UHP) water jets to cut and remove concrete from a structure, known within civil engineering as hydro-demolition.
This method is widely used in the alteration or repair of structures in many industry sectors. It is recognised by civil engineers, structural engineers and consultants as the safest, most effective, vibration-free method of concrete removal. The remaining structure suffers no cracking, reinforcing steel is left undamaged and the concrete retains its original integrity. Hydro Demolition is used for the controlled removal of concrete from any physical structure using either HP or UHP water jets.
First developed in Europe it has gained worldwide acceptance as the preferred method for strategic concrete demolition, partial concrete removal and concrete scarification (scrabbling) for a range of building structures.
Many public and private companies now recognise hydro-demolition solutions as the safest in order to replace it with new concrete without damaging adjacent structures or the structural integrity of the surrounding concrete.
Ultra high pressure (UHP) hydro-demolition can strategically remove concrete from around embedded metals such as reinforcing steel, rebar, and steel beams and expansion joints on a variety of structures such as bridges, tunnels, roads, dams and buildings.
