I have more than twenty years experience in professional work environments that require translation/interpretation skills. I am a native Spanish speaker fluent in both English and Spanish. I am an avid reader in both languages with preference for literature and social sciences. I have strong family connections in Mexico and have worked and traveled extensively throughout Latin America, including Brazil. I am currently director of a cultural and ecucational exchange program with a non-profit, Centers for Social Responsibility. I have a very flexible work schedule and am looking to continue working in translation.
EDUCATION
I earned a Doctorate in Education Leadership and Policy Studies and a Masters in Intercultural Management. My undergraduate degrees are BA Spanish and BS Biology. I have Certificates in Non-profit Management, Natural Resource Manangement and Environmental Education.
WORK EXPERIENCE Academic
I have worked in higer education administration and as adjunct faculty in social sciences for over ten years. As educator I have led many student groups to Mexico and translated curricular materials in political science, education, economics, environmental studies (including coastal ecologies), natrual resources (including community forestry), anthropology and general social sciences. I have served as translator/interpreter from Spanish to English and English to Spanish during semester abroad courses.
Training
Partners of the Americas: I translated training materials in Small Bussiness Mangement, Non-profit Management, Environmental Education and Firemen's Manual. I acted as translator/interpreter during field visits.
Center for International Understanding : I led groups of legislators, policy makers, social service agency directors and health service administrators to Mexico. I translated training materials and acted as facilitator/translator while in Mexico.
Consultant: I have served as translator for organizations providing health care and social services to Mexican migrant workers. I also served as translator for lawyers representing political refugees from Central America.
RESEARCH
I am a Qualitative researcher with field experience in Mexico and the US. In Mexico and Honduras I have interviewed professionals in many fields as well as rural and urban community leaders. Original transcripts in Spanish were translated to English and used to produce both technical and general information documents.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Academic: I developed study abroad programs in Mexico. I was responsible for negotiating working terms and conditions with Mexican partners and developing MOUs and budgets.
Training: Negotiated terms and conditions for short-term study tours and cultural exchange programs to Mexco. Worked with Univeristies and Non-profit organizations in Mexico to design and deliver program content and logistical arrangements. |
