Source text - Spanish Una cena es un símbolo del goce de la vida. Y para Cristo, la cena era un fenómeno meditativo. Siempre amaba que sus discípulos y amigos vinieran a cenar juntos. Aun la última noche, el día antes de ser asesinado, tuvo la última cena.
Jésus manda romper el círculo cerrado y pide que invitemos a los excluidos: a los pobres, a los lisiados, a los cojos y a los ciegos. No era la costumbre y nadie hace esto, ni siquiera hoy. Pero Jesús isiste "¡Convida a esas personas!" ¿Por que? Porque en la invitación desinteresada, dirigida a personas excluidas y marginadas, existe una fuente de felicidad: "y serás dichoso, porque no te pueden corresponder". ¡Felicidad extraña, diferente ! Tú serás feliz porque ellos no pueden corresponderte.
Es la felicidad qun nace del hecho de haber hecho un gesto de total gratuidad. Un gesto de amor que quiere el bien del otro y para el otro,, sin esperar nada en cambio. Es la felicidad de aquel que hace las cosas gratuitamente, sin querer ninguna retribución. Jesús dice que esta felicidad es semilla de la felicidad que Dios dará en la resurrección. Resurrección no sólo al final de la historia,sino ya desde ahora. Actuar así es ya una resurrección.
En la Eucaristía está representado todo este mensaje de vida que Jesús hace posible con su entrega misma con su inmolación. Y su fruto final va más allá de la felicidad que podemos encontrar aquí y ahora porque todo esto nos transforma en Bienaventurados..

Jesus orders the closed circle to be broken and asks that we invite the persons excluded: the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. It wasn't the custom then and nobody does this, not even today. But Jesus insists "Invite those persons!" Why? Because in the selfless invitation, directed to excluded and marginalized persons, a fountain of happiness exists: "and you will be blessed because they can't repay you". Happiness strange and different! You will be happy because they can't repay you.
It is the happiness that is born from the deed of having done a gesture of total gratitude. A gesture of love that desires the good of the other and for the other, without expecting anything in return. It is the happiness of that one that does things freely, without wanting any repayment. Jesus says that this happiness is a seed of the happiness that God will give at the Resurrection. Resurrection not only at the end of history, but already now. Acting like this is already a resurrection.
All this message of life that Jesus makes possible with his giving of himself as a sacrifice is represented in the Eucharist. And its final fruit in the afterlife goes beyond the happiness we can find here and now because all of this transforms us into Blessed Ones.

Source text - Spanish El evangelio de hoy nos presenta tres distintas palabras de Jesús: una sobre cómo evitar el escándalo de los pequeños, la otra sobre la importancia del perdón y una tercera sobre el tamaño de la fe en Dios que debemos tener.
El escándalo es aquello que hace que una persona se tropiece y caiga. A nivel de fe, significa aquello que desvía a la persona del buen camino. Escandalizar a los pequeños quiere decir ser el motivo por el cual los pequeños se desvían del camino y pierden la fe en Dios, porque Jesús se identifica con los pequeños, con los pobres, los sencillos; son sus preferidos, los primeros destinatarios de la Buena Nueva. Quien les hace daño, hace daño a Jesús. A lo largo de los siglos, muchas veces, nosotros los cristianos, por nuestra manera de vivir la fe hemos sido el motivo por el cual los pequeños se han alejado de la iglesia.

Translation - English Today's Gospel presents us with three distinct statements from Jesus: one about how to avoid scandal of the little ones, another about the importance of forgiveness, and a third about the size of faith in God that we should have.
Scandal is that which makes a person stumble and fall. Concerning the standard of faith, it means that which diverts a person from the good path. Scandalizing the little ones means being the motive for which the little ones deviate from the path and lose faith in God; because Jesus identifies with the little ones. with the poor ones, with the simple ones. They are his preferred ones, the first recipients of the Good News. Whoever does them harm, harms Jesus. Throughout the centuries, many times we Christians, by our manner of living the faith, have been the reason for which the little ones have left the Church.
Secondly, forgiveness and reconciliation are two of the matters in which Jesus insists in the most. The grace of the power to forgive persons and reconcile them among themselves and with God was given to Peter, to the Apostles, and to the community. The parable about the need to pardon our neighbor doesn't leave room for doubt: if we don't pardon our brothers, we can't receive the pardon of God. That's right, there isn't proportion between the forgiveness we receive from God and the forgiveness we should offer our neighbor. The forgiveness with which God freely forgives us is like ten thousand talents compared with a hundred denarii. Ten thousand talents are 174 tons of gold; one hundred denarii are no more than 30 grams of gold.
In this context of Luke, the question of the apostles appears to be motivated by the command of Jesus to forgive up to seven times a day the brother and the sister that sin against us. Forgiving isn't easy. The heart remains abused and our reasoning presents a thousand motives for not forgiving. Only with much faith in God is it possible to arrive to the point of having a love so large that it makes us capable of forgiving up to seven times a day the brother that sins against us. Humanly speaking, to the eyes of the world, forgiving in this way is folly and a scandal, but for us this attitude is an expression of the divine wisdom that forgives us infinitely more. Source text - English WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE IN CHRIST?
Jesus fulfilled his promise to establish the kingdom on the day of Pentecost, as recorded in Acts the second chapter. The Holy Sprifit came and filled the believers with the power that Jesus had promised. Peter preached the gospel and three thousand people were saved in Christ. What does it mean to be in Christ?
Over one hundred times in the New Testament we find the expression, "In Christ". Some use the expression, converted to Christ, saved, accepting Christ:as your Lord and Savior, receiving Christ into your heart, becoming a Christian, becoming a member of the church or coming into the kingdom of God. All of these expressions refer to the idea of a person leaving a self centered worldly life and devoting himself to a Christ centered or (Christian) life.
FAITH The first two chapters of Paul's letter to "God's holy people in the city of Colosse." explains what it means to be in Christ. It starts with "Faith in Christ." "For we have heard of your faith in Christ and your love for all of God's people." Colossians 1:4. Faith in Christ means trusting Christ for salvation and help to live our daily lives the way God created us to live. It means accepting Jesus as the Son of God. Remember, "Not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his son as a sacrifice to take away our sins." (I John 4:10)
REPENTANCE This life in Christ continues through repentance from living a self centered life to a Christ centered life. "This same 'Good News' that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first hear and understood the truth about God's wonderful grace," Colossians 1:6, Repent means to change and go a different way. The change we need to make is to move away from the evil world and it's attractions and move toward God and understand how much he loves us, and how he wants us to live.
FORGIVENESS What is the Good News? "God's wonderful grace for us." First, it is that we can be saved from our sins. "For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness (evil) and transferred us into the kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave

our sins." (Colossians 1:13, 14) All of our sins are forgiven when we accept Christ. "I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life". They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death unto life." (John 5:24) Because of the grace of God in forgiving our sins we can forget about them and devote our selves to living a Christ like life, doing good for others and sharing this Good News with those who do not know Christ.
KNOWLEDGE, WISDOM, UNDERSTANDING Through Christ, God will give us knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. "We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and give you spiritual wisdom and understanding." (Colossians 1:9) James put it this way, "If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you." (James 1:5) The person who lives in Christ always wants to please God in every area of his life. When there is a question about what we should do or how to live, we just ask God and through his Word he gives the knowledge and the wisdom to apply it to our life. "Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your life will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better." (Colossians 1:10)
POWER TO LIVE BY In Christ we can be strengthened with his power so that we can live out the teaching of the Bible and find real joy in life. If Paul prayed for something, that indicates that it is possible for us to have it. Listen to Paul's prayer. "We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power, so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy." (Colossians 1:11) James says in James 4:1-6, that we do not have what we want, because be do not ask or we ask with the wrong motives. God really does want to bless us. So let us ask for all we need to live that Christ like life and we will have it.
FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD God's purpose in sending Jesus to earth to live as a human was to restore our fellowship with him. Jesus dealt with the sin problem so that we could once more be in full fellowship with God. Colossians 1:25-29 from the Weymouth and NIV translations reads; "I have become a servant by the commission given me to present to you the word of God in its fullness. The truth which has been kept

secret from all ages and generations, but has been revealed to his saints, to whom it was his will to make known how vast a wealth of glory for the Gentile world is implied in this truth-- which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we preach, admonishing every one and instructing every one, as wisely as we can, so that we may bring everyone into God's presence, made perfect through Christ: To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me."
Paul said his purpose was to present "the word of God in its fullness". That message is that Jesus Christ died for our sin so that we could be brought into fellowship with God, to restore what was lost in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve sinned in eating of the tree of "Knowledge of good and evil". "Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault." (Clossians 1:22)
CHRIST IN YOU THE HOPE OF GLORY Can you think of a greater blessing than having Jesus living in you and helping you with every aspect of life? What peace we can have knowing that Jesus is there to help us with every activity. What joy to know that we are never alone or forsaken. Because of Jesus' death on the cross we can have Jesus taking up residence in our heart, which is our hope of God's glory. That means that we can have with in us the honor, splendor, brilliance and perfection of the divine nature. We are becoming like God, and we reflect the character of God in our lives, because Jesus is in control of our lives. "We know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love." (Romans 5:5)
EQUIP US TO SERVE When Jesus lives in us he will equip us with all we need for doing his will. "May he (Jesus Christ) equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him." (Hebrews 13:21) John put it this way; "Those who obey God's commandments remain in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Spirit he gave us lives in us." (I John 3:24) When we surrender our lives to Jesus he gives us the power to live the Christian life and serve him effectively.

WE ARE COMPLETE In Christ we are spiritually complete. We do not need anything else to maintain a spiritual life here thid go to heaven. "For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority." (Colossians 2:9, 10) Seek Christ Jesus and him alone "I want them to be encouraged and kit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God's mysterious plan which is Christ himself. In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge ."(Colossians 2:2-3)
BAPTISM A SIGN OF OUR COVENANT IN CHRIST In Colossians 2:11-15 Baptism is compared to circumcision in the Old Testament. In Genesis chapter seventeen is the story of God making a covenant with Abram. Circumcision was to be a sign of the covenant that God made with the Jewish people. Just as physical circumcision was a cutting off of flesh, so spiritual or heart circumcision is the cutting off of what Galatians 5:19-21 calls the "Work of the flesh".
One of the great blessings that we enjoy in Christ is that we are spiritually circumcised, our old nature is cut away and we now have the nature of Christ. The more fully we accept Christ the less problem we have with the desires of the flesh. Christ provides a way of escape from every temptation. "God is faithful. He will not allow the temptations to be more than we can stand. When we are tempted he will show us a way out so that we can endure." (I Corinthians 10:13)
Baptism is important because it is a sign of our relationship with Jesus Christ our savior. Therefore, every person who believes that Jesus is the Christ; who died for our sins, will want to be baptized for the forgiveness of sins. "Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38)
VICTORY OVER SATAN Just as Jesus won the victory over Satan, when he died on the cross, we enjoy that victory over Satan when we are in Christ. "He (Jesus) disarmed the spiritual ruler and authorities (Satan and all his demons). He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross (Colossians 2.15) We can win the spiritual victory over the evil powers of this world when we are in Jesus.

SPIRITUAL GROWTH will come as you study God's Word and spend time talking and listening to God in prayer. "Work hard so you can present yourselves to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth." (1 Timothy 2:15)

Translation - Spanish ¿Qué Significa Estar En Cristo?
Jesús cumplió su promesa de establecer su reino en el día de Pentecostés como fue anotado en el libro de Los Hechos de los Apóstoles capítulo segundo. El Espíritu Santo vino y llenó a los creyentes con el poder que Jesús había prometido. Pedro predicó el evangelio y tres mil personas fueron salvadas en Cristo. ¿Qué significa estar en Cristo?
Más que cien veces en el Nuevo Testamento encontramos la expresión “En Cristo”. Algunas personas usan las siguientes expresiones: convertido a Cristo, salvado, aceptar a Cristo como su Señor y Salvador, recibir a Cristo en su corazón, hacerse cristiano, hacerse miembro de la iglesia, o entrar en el reino de Dios. Todas de estas expresiones refieren a la idea de una persona dejando una vida egocéntrica y mundanal para dedicarse a una vida centrada en Cristo (una vida cristiana).
La Fe - Los dos primeros capítulos de la carta de Pablo a "los fieles hermanos en Cristo que conforman el pueblo santo de Dios en la ciudad de Colosas.” explican lo que significa estar en Cristo. Ello empieza con “Fe en Cristo Jesús”. “porque hemos oído de su fe en Cristo Jesús y del amor que tienen por todo el pueblo de Dios." El Arrepentimiento - Esta vida en Cristo continúa por el arrepentirse de vivir una vida egocéntrica y dedicarse a una vida centrada en Cristo. “Esa misma Buena Noticia que llegó a ustedes ahora corre por todo el mundo. Da fruto en todas partes mediante el cambio de vida que produce, así como les cambió la vida a ustedes desde el día que oyeron y entendieron por primera vez la verdad de la maravillosa gracia de Dios.” (Colosenses 1:6) Arrepentirse significa cambiar e ir por otro camino. El cambio que necesitamos es apartarse del mundo malvado y sus atracciones y acercarse a Dios para entender cuanto Él nos ama y cómo quiere que vivamos.
El Perdón – ¿Qué es el evangelio? “La maravillosa gracia de Dios para nosotros.” Primero, ello es que podemos ser salvados de nuestros pecados. "Pues él nos rescató del reino de la oscuridad y nos trasladó al reino de su Hijo amado, quien compró nuestra libertad y perdonó nuestros pecados.”(Colosenses 1:13-14) Todos nuestros pecados son perdonados cuando aceptamos a Cristo. “Les digo la verdad, todos los que escuchan mi mensaje y creen en Dios, quien me envió, tienen vida eterna. Nunca serán condenados por sus pecados, pues ya han pasado de la muerte a la vida.”(Juan 5:25) A causa de la gracia de Dios en perdonar nuestros pecados, podemos olvidarnos de ellos y dedicarnos a vivir una vida centrada en Cristo. Podemos hacer el bien por otros y compartir este evangelio con las personas que no conocen a Cristo.
El Conocimiento, La Sabiduría, El Entendimiento – Por Cristo, Dios nos dará el conocimiento, la sabiduría, y el entendimiento. “Así que, desde que supimos de ustedes, no dejamos de tenerlos presentes en nuestras oraciones. Le pedimos a Dios que les dé pleno conocimiento de su voluntad y que les conceda sabiduría y comprensión espiritual.”(Colosenses 1:9) Santiago lo decía de esta manera, “Si necesitan sabiduría, pídansela a nuestro generoso Dios, y él se la dará; no los reprenderá por pedirla.”(Santiago 1:5) La persona que vive en Cristo siempre quiere complacer a Dios en cada área de su vida. Cuando haya una pregunta sobre lo que debemos hacer o cómo debemos vivir, simplemente le preguntamos a Dios y por su Palabra él nos da el conocimiento y la sabiduría cómo aplicarlo a nuestra vida. “Entonces la forma en que vivan siempre honrará y agradará al Señor, y sus vidas producirán toda clase de buenos frutos. Mientras tanto, irán creciendo a medida que aprendan a conocer a Dios más y más.”(Colosenses 1:10)
El Poder Para Vivir- En Cristo podemos ser fortalecidos por su poder para que podamos vivir las enseñanzas de la Biblia y encontrar la alegría verdadera de la vida. Si el apóstol Pablo oraba por algo, eso indica que es posible que lo tengamos también. Escuche a la oración de Pablo. “También pedimos que se fortalezcan con todo el glorioso poder de Dios para que tengan toda la constancia y la paciencia que necesitan. Mi deseo es que estén llenos de alegría.”(Colosenses 1:11) Santiago dice en Santiago 4:1-6, que no tenemos lo que queremos porque no pedimos o pedimos con los motivos malos. Dios de verdad quiere bendecirnos. Por eso pidamos todo que necesitemos para vivir esa vida centrada en Cristo y lo tendremos.
El Compañerismo Con Dios- El propósito de Dios en mandar a Jesús a la tierra para vivir como un ser humano era para restablecer nuestro compañerismo con él. Jesús resolvió el problema del pecado para que seamos una vez más en pleno compañerismo con Dios. “Dios me ha dado la responsabilidad de servir a su iglesia mediante la proclamación de todo su mensaje a ustedes. Este mensaje se mantuvo en secreto durante siglos y generaciones, pero ahora se dio a conocer al pueblo de Dios. Pues él quería que su pueblo supiera que las riquezas y la gloria de Cristo también son para ustedes, los gentiles. Y el secreto es: Cristo vive en ustedes. Eso les da la seguridad de que participarán de su gloria. Por lo tanto, hablamos a otros de Cristo, advertimos a todos y enseñamos a todos con toda la sabiduría que Dios nos ha dado. Queremos presentarlos a Dios perfectos en su relación con Cristo. Es por eso que trabajo y lucho con tanto empeño, apoyado en el gran poder de Cristo que actúa dentro de mí.”(Colosenses 1:25-29)

Prepararnos Para Servir – Cuando Dios vive adentro de nosotros, él nos prepare con todo lo que necesitamos para hacer su voluntad. [Dios] “los capacite con todo lo que necesiten para hacer su voluntad. Que él produzca en ustedes, mediante el poder de Jesucristo, todo lo bueno que a él le agrada. "(Hebreos 13:21) Juan lo decía de esta manera; "Los que obedecen los mandamientos de Dios permanecen en comunión con él, y él permanece en comunión con ellos. Y sabemos que él vive en nosotros, porque el Espíritu que nos dio vive en nosotros.” (1 Juan 3:24) Cuando entregamos nuestras vidas a Jesús, él nos da el poder para vivir la vida cristiana y servirle a él con eficacia.
Somos Completos – En Cristo somos completos desde el punto de vista espiritual. No necesitamos nada más para mantener una vida espiritual aquí e ir después al cielo. “Pues en Cristo habita toda la plenitud de Dios en un cuerpo humano. De modo que ustedes también están completos mediante la unión con Cristo, quien es la cabeza de todo gobernante y toda autoridad.” (Colosenses 2:9-10) Busquen a Jesucristo y solo a él. “Quiero que ellos cobren ánimo y estén bien unidos con fuertes lazos de amor. Quiero que tengan la plena confianza de que entienden el misterioso plan de Dios, que es Cristo mismo. En él están escondidos todos los tesoros de la sabiduría y el conocimiento.” (Colosenses 2:2-3)
El bautismo: El Indicio De Nuestra Alianza Con Cristo – En Colosenses 2:11-15 se compara el bautismo con la circuncisión del Antiguo Testamento. En Génesis capítulo diecisiete es la historia de Dios cuando hizo un pacto con Abram. La circuncisión era un indicio de la alianza que Dios hizo con el pueblo de Israel. Así como la circuncisión física era el cortar de alguna carne, la circuncisión espiritual o del corazón es el cortar de lo que se llama en Gálatas 5:19-21 “las obras de la carne”.
Una de las grandes bendiciones que gozamos en Cristo es que se circuncida a nosotros espiritualmente, se corta nuestra vieja naturaleza, y ahora tenemos la naturaleza de Cristo. Cuanto más aceptamos a Cristo, cuanto menos problema tenemos con los deseos de la carne. Cristo provee una manera de escaparse de cada tentación. “Dios es fiel; no permitirá que la tentación sea mayor de lo que puedan soportar. Cuando sean tentados, él les mostrará una salida, para que puedan resistir.” (1 Corintios 10:13)
El bautismo es importante porque es un indicio de nuestra relación con Jesucristo, nuestro salvador. Por eso cada persona que cree que Jesús es el Cristo y que murió por nuestros pecados querrá bautizarse. “Cada uno de ustedes debe arrepentirse de sus pecados y volver a Dios, y ser bautizado en el nombre de Jesucristo para el perdón de pecados. Entonces recibirán el regalo del Espíritu Santo." (Hechos 2:38)
La Victoria Sobre Satanás - Así como Jesús ganó la victoria sobre Satanás cuando murió en la cruz, nosotros gozamos de esa victoria sobre Satanás cuando estamos en Cristo. “De esa manera, desarmó a los gobernantes y a las autoridades espirituales. Los avergonzó públicamente con su victoria sobre ellos en la cruz.” (Colosenses 2:15) Podemos ganar la victoria espiritual sobre los poderes malvados de este mundo cuando estamos en Cristo.
Jesús nos ofrece vida en Él

¿La vida en Cristo o la muerte en sus pecados?
Jesús Dijo, “Vengan a mí todos los que están cansados y llevan cargas pesadas, y yo les daré descanso. Pónganse mi yugo. Déjenme enseñarles, porque yo soy humilde y tierno de corazón, y encontrarán descanso para el alma. Pues mi yugo es fácil de llevar y la carga que les doy es liviana.” (Mateo 11:28-30)
El Próximo Paso – Pídanle a Dios que les dirijan a una iglesia donde tendrán el ánimo de otras personas que creen en Cristo. “Pensemos en maneras de motivarnos unos a otros a realizar actos de amor y buenas acciones. Y no dejemos de congregarnos, como lo hacen algunos, sino animémonos unos a otros, sobre todo ahora que el día de su regreso se acerca." (Hebreos 10: 24-25)
El Desarrollo Espiritual vendrá a medida que estudian la Palabra de Dios y pasan el tiempo hablándole y escuchándole a Dios en la oración. "Esfuérzate para poder presentarte delante de Dios y recibir su aprobación. Sé un buen obrero, alguien que no tiene de qué avergonzarse y que explica correctamente la palabra de verdad.” (2 Timoteo 2:15)

Here are your raffle tickets and instructions for making this part of Raise the Roof Gala and Auction a huge success! Enclosed you will find 10 raffle tickets we are asking your family to sell to friends, co-workers, grandparents, neighbors or anyone who would be willing to support St. Eugene Parish and School.
There will be three drawings this year with prizes being
1. $3,000 cash
2. iPad 32GB with Wi-Fi
3. Dinner for a Year (12 restaurant gift certificates)
Each ticket is $10-when you have sold yours- please return the completed ticket stubs and the money collected (should total $100) in this envelope (with your family name on the outside) to the school or church office. When you turn in the completed envelope you may also pick up more raffle tickets to sell.
If you have a CSSE student, by selling ten tickets your family's name goes in our separate drawing for a tuition waiver of $3,050. The CSSE class that sells the most tickets will receive a Sonic drink party.
Checks can be made payable to St. Eugene Catholic School. The winning raffle tickets will be drawn during the Live Auction on Nov. 6 at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. The drawing for the tuition waiver will also be held that evening. You do not need to be present to win, but we do hope to see everyone there!!! What a great night to celebrate our church and school!!!

I graduated from The University of Oklahoma in 1983 with a BA in Spanish and minor in Latin American Anthropology. Prior to this I lived and studied parts of two summers in Monterrey, México and Querétaro, México. In 1987, I translated some Fair Housing documents for the State of Oklahoma. In 1998, I lived and worked in Ciudad Victoria, México as a English teacher and missionary. I have just graduated from Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City with an A.A.S. in Technical Spanish/Translation And Interpretation.
