Bio
PERSONAL TRAITS:

I consider myself to be an organized, deadline-driven, enthusiastic professional. I am always eager to learn more and to improve the quality of my work. I can work long hours translating with high quality standards.

Among my fields of interest are subjects related to sciences in general (Biology, Chemistry), social sciences, and literature.

EXPERIENCE:

I have been working as a professional translator since the year 2000. My work experience includes several types of texts, ranging from UN reports on East Timor Independence to Technical documents (catalogs and instruction manuals).

I also have many years of experience teaching foreign languages (Portuguese, English, Spanish and German) both to children and adults (up to C1 and C2 levels included). This experience allowed me to gain a full mastery in the skills of proof-reading and editing texts (especially in the English, Portuguese and Spanish languages) written by the students.

LANGUAGES:
My mother tongue is Portuguese. Because I have lived in Brazil for many years (10) I consider that I am equally fluent both in the European and the Brazilian variety of the Portuguese Language.

I also consider myself to be native speaker of the English language. This is justified by the fact that my mother is South African (as well as all her family branch), though I have seldom spent more than 3 or 4 months in the country at a time.

To reinforce my mastery of the English language I took a Degree (1995-2000) that specializes both in the English and German language, literature and culture. This degree was taken at the University of Coimbra (Portugal), one of the most respected Universities in Portugal. Later (2004-2005) I took a Post-graduation in English and American Literature and Culture in the same University.

It was only in 2006 that I started to study and work with the Spanish language, having acquired a C1 level of mastery of the language. Nevertheless it became my third language of specialization and I feel completely comfortable translating or interpreting from and into Spanish.
