I am of British origin and have lived in France since 1982 apart from some years in Italy and the time of my theological studies at Fribourg University, Switzerland. I have acquired French citizenship and am now completely in the French and European system.

I am therefore completely fluent in spoken and written French. Being of English origin, I can ensure a high quality of human translation from French into English. I am mostly experienced in technical and industrial translating, and able to offer a well-expressed, clear and easy-to-read rendering of your documents with high accuracy of concepts, essential for technical work. My twenty years of professional hands-on experience enables me to adapt to new fields of industry and business with their constantly evolving terminology.

More recently, I have had to come to terms with machine translation and the progress it is making. It requires careful and painstaking post-editing to avoid serious errors and mistranslations. It can save time, but extreme care needs to be taken. There is also the question of confidentiality which is resolved by using local hard-disk-based software or remote servers that guarantee that texts are immediately deleted. A client can request traditional human translation or machine translation with careful post-edition.

Outside my work as a freelance translator, I am an active and free-minded kind of person, living in the Mayenne. My time is shared between working, chores at home, involvement in choral and vocal music at a local music school and sailing. I also write on philosophical subjects.
