In fact, subj.

I have reinstalled twice as I thought I have overlooked something during installation... but alas: the archive unpacks itself into C:\Program files\SDL\Installers... and installs afterwards into C:\Program files\SDL\SDL Studio... WITHOUT ASKING me where would I like to install it! Do I really need to use Partition Magic to transfer it where I want to install? In my opinion this is either a major bug or a major defect...

I'm very much afraid you will have to use PM Jun 15, 2009

AFAIK there is no way to tell the installer to install elswhere.

Thanks, Jerzy Jun 15, 2009

That's what I suspected... however, while the archive is unpacking, there is the greyed out 'Browse' button, that's why I asked.

just a question Jun 15, 2009

...wouldn't it be feasible, instead of using PM, to try to modify the few Trados-related pathways in the registry (and move the files accordingly)? Just an idea, I don't say it should work.

Hi Tomas Jun 15, 2009

But PM would do it better than I would do it manually.

However, my major concern here is that a serious and expensive program has an installator as primitive as this.

I couldn't agree more. - A colleague of mine discussed this with SDL and they told him they might implement the option to install on other drives in future versions of SDL Trados if enough people request this.

You can vote for it on the Ideas platform:

Kind regards,

Can PM do it? Jun 16, 2009

Hi Jerzy,

Is Partition Magic capable of moving specified applications to different partitions and of updating the Windows registry accordingly? I wasn't aware of that. Would be great!

Thanks and regards,
Stefan

I used PM many times Jun 16, 2009

for moving various programs from one partition to another. Will try to do the same with Sudio in the evening and will report the results here.

Disclaimer: I haven't yet used PM under Vista, and I have Vista in my home computer. However, it would be fine to give it a try. Maybe I would need to upgrade PM - no idea.

OK, let's wait for the fix...

Many thanks, Jorge, in the meantime I will definitely find more important things to do.
