Trados 2011 Translation Memory could not be found Thread poster: Richard Hill

Does anyone know why Trados doesn't know where my translation memories are, taking into account that they are updated accordingly when I confirm each segment.
If I click "Aceptar" (OK) instead of "Cancel" and navigate to the TM location, and the repeat the process for the next (second and only other) TM, once I've done that, it requires me to navigate again to the location of the first TM whose location I had already previously confirmed.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I've got the same problem... | Oct 4, 2011 |
I've got the same problem in Studio 2011... The only thing that helped was to delete the projects which were causing the problems and then recreate everything again.
I really hope this bug will be fixed soon!
Richard Hill Mexico Local time: 08:52 Spanish to English TOPIC STARTER Delete the project? | Oct 5, 2011 |
Hi LMCO
Thanks for your reply. Just one question:
Should I delete the whole offending project or the project template?

Move translation memories to folder created by studio, named "Studio 2011" installed to Documents by default, then open studio 2011 and remove TMs and redirect trados to the "Studio 2001" folder and open the Tms from there.

I had to place the projects (all but my current project) in a special folder, outside of the Studio folders.
I had previously deleted the templates too, but that alone did not help.
same problem | Jan 30, 2012 |
I think it began after the service pack. It happens after pretty much every move I make outside of the editor. Super annoying.
It can't find them on my C drive because they are no longer there, they're on the E drive of a whole new computer. But, it still looks for them through the old location of C:\documents........

change the TM location in the project settings?

Did that. The problem is that it still looks in the previous locations, and it's looking for TMs that I'm not even using on the current project. The default location for the project TM is the C drive and I can't find where to change that. I suspect that may be the problem.

driving me nuts now | Jan 31, 2012 |
I'm getting that error after every action outside of editor. For example, after finalizing a project, after marking it complete, after clicking on another project. Each instance of this requires about 1 minute of high speed clicking to cancel them. It is popping up for every TM ever used, including all those tiny client-supplied TMs, TMs I haven't used in months, etc.

I bet this can be fixed by deleting my user profile or log or something. However, I fear that would delete all the settings that function as workarounds for other Trados problems.
It's always 2 steps forwards and 1 step back with Trados. ▲ Collapse

This might not be very viable for you if Trados is asking for so many TMs but I had the same problem come back (including the 1 minute of high speed clicking).
In my case, I had a few TM's which I merged into one, then got rid of a few TMs I no longer needed, then came the problem, so I noted the exact names of each file, made new/empty TM's, placed them in the TM folder of course, and now Trados "thinks" its found the bloody TMs its looking for. Of course it's a pain having to do this but at least it saves all the damned clicking. I suggest you try this workaround with just the fist TM trados looks for, and after doing so, see if Trados looks for it next time.
I am also hoping that a better solutions is offered by someone.
Cheers! ▲ Collapse | | |
A pain in the #&%$#
That sums up Trados in a nutshell. I'm done with it. Selling the license and buying something else. I spend a half day every 2 weeks or so fixing some ridiculous new problem. Trados "support" are friendly enough, but it's usually just a workaround that ends up conflicting with something or causing some other problem later.
Hey Trados, FIX THE MILLIONS OF ERRORS PEOPLE REPORT IN THESE FORUMS! Instead of you spending the money and man hours to fix your overpriced non-functioning product, you rely on your customers to search out and find solutions for you. Ridiculous.
Remove your Projects and add them again | Feb 1, 2012 |
Hi Shawn,
Have you tried removing all of your Projects and adding only the ones you need now? This would at least give you the opportunity to identify which projects are causing the problems as a result of you moving TMs from a location you previously told Studio to use.
If you don't need them anymore then perhaps that alone will solve the problem? Maybe worth a shot anyway.

I know your answer is addressed to Shawn, but do you mean remove all the projects from the project folder, the project templates, or the projects in studio's project window?
Good question... | Feb 1, 2012 |
... and if it was me I would start with the projects in the projects view so they are not loaded into Studio. If that failed then I would remove the templates as well.
I think a trial and error approach is needed because Studio has no possible way to know where you put these files short of searching all your available network and trying to match what was there with what you have now... quite an unreasonable thing to expect the software to do I think.

Richard Hill Mexico Local time: 08:52 Spanish to English TOPIC STARTER I seem to have it sorted | Feb 1, 2012 |
I'm not sure if all these steps are necessary but this is what I did:
1) Start a new project
2) Save all in editor view (at this point I temporarily removed my TM's for this test)
3) Open project view, right click your new project - create project template
4) In editor view - file - setup - project templates - import (new template) - select new template - click default
5) At this point Trados no longer looked for the "missing" TM's
